i think i have answered about 20 questions now on "why are atheists in the R&S section?"
these questions seem to imply that
1)no God -no religion...which is extremely rude considering that Buddhism is atheistic
2)if a person doesn't believe in the BIBLE God,s/he's an "atheist" no matter what other God they might believe in.....

anyone else getting tired of these whiny questions ?

Ignorance.

I wish people would mind their own business and quit trying to convert others when they could be doing something more constructive.

I'm Catholic but i respect other peoples religions and their right to believe in whatever they want. I don't feel the need to hound others, if someone wants to know about religion they will ask, they wont sit around waiting for the evangelical christian to come around.

A local columnist mentioned a few years back about talking with a young girl who was astounded to learn that the entire planet was not all Christian. I believe it comes from isolationism and the great comfort that comes from never associating with or listening to anyone with a different belief system, despite the Christian admonition to witness to the non-believers and to set a good example before them. No wonder so many lose their religion when they go away to college: they've never had to defend their beliefs before then.

A question in the Gay and Lesbian section just now (although I'm not sure if it's to be taken seriously) expressed bewilderment (maybe feigned) that an atheist can champion environmental causes and oppose child labor abuses, as though only those believing in a higher power can be altruistic.

Of course, we get the same questions day after day in these sections because the "audience" turns over daily. Hopefully, as we get tired of giving the same answers to the same questions, there are also fresh "answerers" to whom the question is also new and who have the energy to keep providing the same, needed information.

I'm not sure that I know any Christians that think they are the only religion. I do know Christians that believe we are the only religion that is right or the only one that is worth following. I think what many people who ask why atheists are on here are stating that atheists are not following any religion. They think that the only people on this board should be ones that have a faith or any kind. I disagree with that. Even if someone isn't following a faith, it doesn't mean they cannot state an opinion about another one.

I don't think that's true of ALL Christians. Just some. Just like some Hindus think that their religion is the only religion, and some Muslims, and some Seventh Day Adventists etc, etc.

Just a matter of personality, and open-mindedness, I guess.

I never get tired of questions, but I do get VERY tired of closed-mindedness. I have no time for people like that...

I think most of them know that there are other religions in the world...but the overwhelming majority of Christians are of the opinion that they are the only -correct- religion. Interestingly enough, most other religions in the world also believe that they are the only correct ones.
Now here's a question. What are the chances that ALL of those religions could be correct? I'm no staistician, but probably not so good. Now here's part two: What are the chances that they ALL of those religions could be wrong?

Their egos has them by the short & curlies--I'm sure if they studied other religions they would get a deeper meaning out of their own religion--but they have been brain-washed too long to bother--Still it must come as a shock for them to find out most god-believers on the planet now are not Christian--& that atheists know their Bible & history far better than them!!

Because they're totally unable to think in larger terms than what their little book dictates. The cannot understand that there's a whole big world out there, and not everyone buys into their fairytales. I think the number is something like only 1 out of 6 people is a christian (I'll see if I can find the stats). Their arrogance is amazing to me.

First of all, christianity is not a religion. It's a belief or way of life!
Here's a website that talks about atheism!
This should explain atheism as NOT a religion.
And just remember that not all christians are bad people! You do have some people who stray from there faith as we all do at some point in time but regardless of what religion or preference we choose, we are all people. And people make mistakes, like over-preaching!

Yes, I'm a Christian who completely agrees with you.

While Christians DO believe that theirs is the ONLY religion that leads to eternal life, that does NOT excuse them from being disrespectful of others. The Christian God expects that we will offer unconditional love and unconditional respect towards all. Sadly, many of us Christians don't put that into very good practice.

This is a discriminating and stereotyping society. I do not in fact think christanity is the only religion. Although Christanity is the bigest religion but Islam is right up there to and also Hinduism and Buddism.
