I feel that Christians show a lot of hatred and what not towards Gays and it saddens me. They basically turn their backs to them or shove a Bible in their face and tell them "Save yourself from this sinful life!" Ever stop to think that Gays have the same feelings and emotions we do? They are going to live their life. You can't "fix" them because they don't need fixing. I have many gay friends who attend churches that accept them and don't try to change them into something they're not. Why can't most churches do that? Why so much hatred? Do you honestly think they'll be denied a place in heaven because they weren't attracted to the opposite sex? Every stop to think that most gays are BORN gay? (It's been proven Scientificly) I myself am not gay, but I have many gay friends and it angers me to see Christans and other religions be so cold and cruel towards them.

They don't care about science, so don't waste your time. Religionists are so stifled sexually that they cannot understand anything not spoon fed to them. We have a term for such sexual deviants, ... perverts. Part of their god is love myth is that they hate lots of people, and gays are one of their targets, out of fear and cowardice.

Well it seems that some are trying to get into the famous genetic vs. choice debate again.

Well for starters I do believe that homosexuality for the most part is genetic, just like blond hair or blue eyes.

But for the moment let's just suppose it isn't and it is a choice.

Even if it were a choice, what business is it of anybody Else's what two consenting adults due in the privacy of their bedroom or the choice to live together love and take care of each other? Answer: no one but theirs.

And don't try to peddle that homosexuals are on the prowl molesting young boys because the stats just don't bear that out. In fact the vast majority of paedophiles ( molesters of children of both sexes are white heterosexual men)

So what possible argument can be made for denying these people their right to live and love as they please like everyone else regardless whether it is genetic or simply choice.
Except of course the mistaken belief that it is some how a sin or an act against God. (which by the way is only the belief of the few and not the many)

Yo Cricket! It's me again!!! ;-)

You stated "The Bible says EXPLICITLY that having sex with someone of the same sex is WRONG".
No it doesn't, it calls it an "abomination unto the lord". Only believers interpret this as "wrong", and understandably so.
But secularists don't have a little black book with cryptic definitons of "right" and "wrong". We can only rely on reason and logic to figure it out. To debate us, you must respond using reason and logic.
Oh the horror, the horror!

BTW, have you ever stopped to wonder WHY the disciples figured homosexuality and onanism were "abominations"? Do you think it may have been related to a different tact used by the mormons for exactly the same reasons and to achieve the same result?

Also, if you feel you must abide by one verse in a given chapter, why is it that you don't find it necessary to abide by all the other verses in the same chapter? IOW, why do you merely cherry-pick the stuff you feel like and ignore the rest? If that isn't THE definition of hypocrisy, then please feel free to explain my error.

Furthermore, there isn't one single anti-gay verse in the bible that is uttered by god himself or by jesus. Care to explain that one?

You also mentioned that being born gay doesn't make it "right", and that you were born with other urges that are deemed "wrong"
That's weasel wording, babe.
There are many logical reasons why your argument is ludicrous, but let me go with the most obvious one: Lying, cheating and stealing are demonstrably harmful activities.
Homosexuality is not. Poof! Your comparison is invalid.

And as far as it being a "sin", only christians can "sin".
I am atheist, dear; I am without sin.

Which takes me to my last point: the only reason this is such an angrily debated topic is that fundys want to legislate "sin" into law.
I will accept any law based on reason. I reject any law based on rote or tradition that cannot be supported by reason.
As an example, the banning of gay marriages cannot be supported by reason, and so I reject that law.

Love,
emfederin

PS: To the asker, the "born gay" hypothesis has NOT been "proven scientifically" by ANY stretch of your imagination. There is some evidence that supports the idea, nothing more. It may be completely true, more likely partly true, and possibly not true at all.
DO NOT stoop to the fundy level of making up bogus crap in an attempt to support an arguable claim. In the end, It only obfuscates truth and undermines reason.
And that, in MY book, is WRONG.

Religious people do except homosexuality. They love everybody. They take whatever want from the word of God and write their own Bible. If you were a homosexual and read the word of God and understood what is said in his word and wanted to be a part of Jesus, not man you would want and expect to change, is that what a Christian expects to change and not be the same. Yes, you will be denied a place in heaven because you did not have faith in Gods word. Is anything opposite from the word of God cover to cover acceptable. As a sinner you are something you or not.If you continue in sin ,you will continue to be the same. Is that the same for the homosexual? Be it man or woman? Gays have the same human emotions but we have spiritual emotions when we are saved. God made us as his creation and because of mans greed and lust and disbelief man brought these things on himself. Religion settles for that, what ever man believes. What does Gods word really say,Oh! no I have a friend,a family member, a child that I love dearly. I can not help whom I love. So that settles it,God is love ,so I will love and except that and let it go. God hates sin in whatever form.

Because its not right, men weren't made for men and women weren't made for women.

Genesis 19
4: Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom-both young and old- surrounded the house. 5: They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
6: Lot went ouside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing."

Now I know there is plenty more in the Bible about this, but this is the first one that came to mind. This is good enough for me.

Why can't you accept that some people don't like homos? What makes them so great that I should accept them? The world isn't perfect, not everyone is going to agree with everyone...

Every time I answer these type of questions, I get a lot of thumbs-down. But I'm going to assume that there are SOME people here who want a real answer, something besides the "because they're brainwashed morons" type of answer.
And just a warning, this is NOT going to be politically correct!

I do not hate homosexuals, not even in the slightest bit. And I DO accept them as people. I have many homosexual and bisexual friends who would say the same thing I'm claiming: That I love them just as much as any of my straight friends, and I do accept them.
However. The Bible says EXPLICITLY that having sex with someone of the same sex is WRONG. Period. No arguments. It doesn't make it okay if they "really love each other," either. That same rationalization doesn't make incest, adultery, or fornication okay, does it? Not in my eyes, and not according to the Bible.
Another however. This does not mean that I have the right to judge them, or anyone else, and tell them they're going to hell. Only God knows their hearts.
I believe that some people ARE born with homosexual urges. But that doesn't make it right. I was born with all KINDS of urges: To lie, to steal, and to constantly try to get my older brother in trouble. Seriously. Does that mean that I should have continued to be that awful little brat that I was? I don't think so.

What is a person who calls themselves a Christian but continues to sin called? Come on, everyone knows the answer to this: A HYPOCRITE.

So I've had my say. Bring on the thumbs-down, I guess.

The Bible states that homosexuality is not acceptable in the eyes of God. Therefore, I do not have to accept it. Its sinful.

However, this does not mean that I hate everyone who is gay. I don't believe that a gay person should be discriminated against anymore than a liar or a jealous person. People who are practicing homosexuals deserve the same rights as the rest of us in this country. This doesn't mean that I MUST agree with what they're doing or that I have to buy all that about people being born gay. Its not be scientically PROVEN -- there are lots of theories surrounding what might cause a person (specifically men) to be homosexual. None of them, however, have been PROVEN.

I believe that they'll be denied a place in Heaven, because you can't be an unrepenting sinner and be granted eternal life. This is not my opinion. This is what God says. But they have as much free will as I do ... if they choose not to follow God's instructions, they will be the ones that pay the price. I'm available to share the word of God with anyone, but I won't shove it in their face.

My Aunt is a Lesbian. She wasn't always a lesbian, she was married and had 3 kids...

her girlfriend of almost 30 years was raped and locked in a closet for most of her life, by her father and her fathers friends...Its pretty obvious....

My Best friend is the entire world is a lesbian, when she was 13 she told me, It never effected me...however her idea on why she is Gay, Isn't the same..she is real about it...

They don't need fixing, your correct...

I am a cold hard Christian, but I also firmly believe that it's not my choice to make.

Every other Christian I know is the same.

Then again, You have people who are atheist who just plain old think it's disgusting...Its not a religion thing..Its a personal thing...

i think this is a good question and i know that the pat answer will be because the bible says it is an abomination. but here is what i think the REAL reason is. IMO there is alot of shady immoral stuff that goes on in some churches and i really believe that all of the focus being put on homosexuality is really a way to draw attention away from all of the bad things some so called christians are doing. we have seen many examples coming out of child molestation, fraud, political bedding as well as judgement, hate and even war all being played out in the names of christ and god. i am not personally gay, i do have friends that are and they are some of the most moral, spiritual people i know. they're being used as scapegoats plain and simple.

You need to understand that God loves the individual, however, their behavior and life choice will lead them into bondage that will harden their hearts to God's eternal salvation. Because Homosexuality involves so much emotional investment, it is almost impossible to tell the them the truth without being labeled with very harsh epithets.

Remember, the sin of homosexuality is no blacker than my sin. And if the Christian truly hated homosexuals, they would keep the message of salvation to themselves, not try to change them, and let them go on their merry way to destruction. But because we care, we take the slings and arrows of 90% of the media and public to speak the truth. Hopefully with love and salt*.

The Bible states that homosexuality is behavioral, for Paul states that many of the new believers had been delivered from homosexuality in

1 Corinthians 6:9-11,

Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites... will inherit the kingdom of God. And SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

If it were a genetic thing, then the Bible would not have shown that some were delivered. Your argument is with the Bible. If you do not believe the Bible, then your concern is moot. If you believe the Bible is the Word of God, then it states that you can be born again, transformed by the renewing of your mind, washed and cleansed.

* Salt is an expression that relates back to how the ancients dealt with infected wounds. They applied salt which cleansed and disinfected the wound. It would sting to high heaven, but it was necessary to save the life of the individual. The truth hurts, but the truth will also set you free--and in the end, save your eternal soul.

It is not been proven scientifically that people are born gay!! The closest scientific study to that claim concluded that certain genetics passed down in both males and females made them more likely than others to desire sex with males. There are staight men with this trait. Also there are gay men without this trait. So there is no proof that the genes involved directly cause homosexuality. They may play a role in influence, but the end result is a choice. In addition, this study showed no supporting evidence for lesbianism. Where are you getting your information from?
