The idea of Chrismas celebrated near the winter solstice is indeed of fairly late provenance. Originally Christians celebrated the BAPTISM of Jesus on 6th January. Later, for political/religious reasons this was changed to his birth, it being deemed that his Baptism being symbolic of his rebirth it was one and the same. In the Fourth century it was shifted back to 25th December, the feast of the Birth of Mithras. This Persian and Anatolian "god" was really
more like an archangel in their religious tradition. Zoroaster (or
Zarathustra) was a great Persian prophet who probably lived in the 6th century BC, around the time of Buddha and Pythagoras.(There are indeed traditions that Pythagoras met Zoroaster after the former was taken captive to Babylon by Cambyses the Persian king.Mithraism as such probably predates Zoroastrianism
by many centuries. The god Mithras was summoned as a witness to trial by fire and was therefore, like ST, Michael, associated with Justice.

Is JESUS the GOD of the Old Testament ?

The Trinity contends that all three parts of God are one so there is no separation between God and Jesus.

Therefore, according to Christianity the God of the Old Testament is Jesus .

If you say yes, then you can not ever deny that he sent the commandments written in the Old Testament.

Someone can say they don’t follow them anymore…ok…. But if they ever deny that he made these commands then JESUS was not the GOD of the Old Testament.

Here is one command JESUS sent down :

"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, 21: but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.” ---- Exodus 21:20-21

If a Christian denies it was ever sent down by Jesus then either Jesus is not God or they
dont believe that the Bible is the word of God.

Whether these are still enforced or whether these were sent millenniums ago…… is not the question.

The eye opener is that Christians cannot deny that JESUS sent this command down for captive women.

how do I deal with this situation nicely?
Thanks!

People say that "Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins." How does that actually work? Why does that one act pay for our sins? Would he not have been as great a person if he had not been killed?

And please, please PLEASE don't give me a preachy response. I am not trying to be saved, converted, baptized, etc. I go to a Christian church, but don't understand how that one event equals payment of sins. I'm looking for a level-headed response.

He believes that kids learn morals through religion learned in school, and he has proof.
I believe that Morals are learned throughout life and do not need to be taught to one through religion.

Whats your thought on how morals should be taught?

Be honest. Do you cultivate ignorant opinions of people who have different religious viewpoints than your own? Do you refuse to consider that people in "those" religions (or any religion at all )can have some really good points to make?
Do you think that people who don't agree with you in the area of religion or irreligion are just stupid or wicked? Do you think that people of other religions will definitely go to Hell no matter how upright or kind or charitable or devout or just or virtuous they may be?
Do you think that all in other religions serve demons or the Antichrist? Do you get what little information about other (or any)religion(s) from sources that are themselves violently biased against"those people" and their"evil delusions" and heresies?
Be honest,now.

What would your feelings be about that? Would you defile the grave marker? Get ready to be honest, cause now that the VA has conceded the argument with the Pagan Veterans fighting for their right to display their symbol of faith, you will be forced to deal with it.

No one knows exactly when Zarathushtra lived. Zoroastrian
tradition places him at around 600 B.C.E., but this date is thought
by modern scholars to be far too late. The modern estimate of
Zarathushtra's date is anywhere from 1500 to 1000 B.C.E.
The basic scripture of Zoroastrianism is a set of 5 poetic songs called the _Gathas_, which were composed by Zarathushtra himself and have been preserved through the millennia by Zoroastrian priests. Over the years many other scriptures have accumulated around these Gathas. Much of these scriptures were destroyed by the Greek, Muslim, and Mongol invasions, but some remain. The Gathas are still the core text of the faith. They are composed in a very ancient language known as Avestan, which is closely related to Sanskrit.

God was husband to Israel.

Isa.54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called.

God is divorced, God divorced Israel.

Jer.3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

Does God like divorce? No, nor should we.

Is divorce the unforgivable sin? No.

So why is that: people, churches, and religion try to make divorcees a second class Christian?

Is God second class? No, of coarse not.

So, let’s put a stop to these precepts of men.
