God was husband to Israel.

Isa.54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called.

God is divorced, God divorced Israel.

Jer.3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

Does God like divorce? No, nor should we.

Is divorce the unforgivable sin? No.

So why is that: people, churches, and religion try to make divorcees a second class Christian?

Is God second class? No, of coarse not.

So, let’s put a stop to these precepts of men.

Give the person a "star." Men's precepts have invaded the mentalities of mankind, and if God were to be as you say, divorced, he would like to be divorced for the inferior precepts which have pegged him as this inconsiderate tyrant rather than the all loving creator. People judge God by the actions of religions and many false doctrines, which has nothing to do with the REAL Father in heaven..........

As for your marriage I would definitely get a divorce and a restraining order. But first I would go straight to the police first and tell him the threats he made to you. My dad was kind of the same way and stocked my mom and tried killing her by turning on the gas stove while she was out of the house and did many other creepy things. You need to get out of that house now and go to the police station and get protection. You are being abused weather you want to see it like that or not. Do not feel bad for your husband and not tell on him because there is a good chance you will get hurt if you do not. As for what the bible says, I think you need to find a new religion because the bible does say you should not get a divorce unless he cheated on you. Also it says you shouldn't get married again which I think is totally wrong.Matthew 19:3-9 A woman has the right to get married again especially if the first one did not treat her right. That is not her fault. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. You need to get out of that marriage for your own safety and for you children or future children. In my religion it is OK to get a divorce if your husband is doing any kind of abuse to you. Please listen to my advise and take care of yourself and your family. You wont just be hurting yourself but your family ( mother, father, siblings, and your children or future children).

It's a metaphor. Israel is referred to as the bride of God. Later, the church is referred to as the bride of Christ.

Much of the scriptures are written using poetic images. They are not to be taken literally.

But what I wonder, is why you put so much of your energy into making this argument. Do you need to be in conflict with people of faith in order to define yourself? Who would you be without this anger and this argument?

I know those scriptures, and I read them the same way you do.

Also, I am divorced, and know just how foolish some 'Christians' can be regarding that.

Fortunately for me, I don't give a rat's tokhes what other people think of me.

Yes, God divorced Israel. God hates divorces but He also hates where we are at if the marriage is not good.

The only unforgivable is is the denial of Jesus as our Savior. : )
