What is something you are grateful to the Lord for today?

Mine: I was able to share my knowledge (that comes from the Bible) about a certain topic with someone who was a little lost.

If you don't believe in God, then what is something nice that's happened to you today that you appreciate?

If you believe in god 100%, and your actions are governed by this, you must realize that the terrorists also believe in their god 100%. They pray 5 times a day. They feel they are directed by god to kill infidels, and that their actions are sanctioned by god.

Now, you can say their god is false, but you can't really know. In fact, in the old testament god behaved just like the terrorists behave. So as a god-believer, you have to leave open the possibility that they are right. Since you tolerate and even encourage believe in god, you are equally responsible for their actions.

As an atheist, I don't believe in any god. I believe running planes into buildings and killing thousands of people is simply wrong. I actually have the absolute moral high ground here, whereas if you believe in god you cannot claim that the terrorists were absolutely wrong. You have to leave open the possibility that they are right.

As a believer, are you responsible for 9/11?

Curious if any denominations teach the following about life after death:

Since Jesus said that eternal life can only come through Him, and that the path to life is narrow, and only a few find it, that means most people won't have eternal life. But a loving God wouldn't send the majority of people to roast forever in a fiery Hell. So instead of the traditional concept of "Hell," the people who don't find eternal life through Christ just cease to exist. When they die, they just die, like plants or animals, and they no longer exist. Or, maybe they have a soul, but their soul is destroyed. It may even be destroyed in a lake of fire or whatever, but the point is, the soul doesn't consciously burn forever, it's simply annihilated. So instead of Heaven and Hell as the two destinations after death, the two destinations are living forever with God, or ceasing to exist.

I am referring to the fighting between Christians and non-Christians in America. I should note that I am an Atheist.

Honestly, I can't think of any real issue I have with Lutherans or Methodists. Nothing has ever come up and I know plenty of them.

I have Catholic friends and co-workers, and this is a bit more of a mixed bag.

I can't recall having any problems with the Amish and I have worked in areas where there were plenty.

Actually, if you narrow it down to certain uptight Baptist and Evangelical types, and Robertson, Falwell and their ilk, most of what we argue about is coming from that direction.

Even most religious people in America hate the Westboro Baptists, not that all Baptists are like that.

So they would rather believe something like the da vinci code based solely on the virtue that it agrees with their anti-Christian views, even though there is actually less historical evidence for the da vinci code than the events in the new testament. If something discredits Christianity, then it must be right, but it's wrong if it supports it.

Should we have separate forums for all religions within the R&S section? Even Athiest and Agnostic ones? Do you think that would stop all the arguing and bashing and hate, or do you think people would still deliberately go into another section just to put others down?

Why are all of the signs of the return of god or Jesus horrible things? I hear people saying that god will come back when the world is engulfed in war and pestilence and and people are at their most depraved... That doesn't sound like the return of a loving personal god. It almost sounds like if we screw up enough daddy will have to come downstairs from his crossword and he will be right upset that we disturbed him. Apparently the predicted actions of this god follow this pattern. He's gonna take us bad little kids to the basement and give us a right whoopin' with his belt for not doing as we were told while he sat in his own little world ignoring us.

Is that really the god some of you worship? Sounds more like a home i would run away from.

I think they like to point their fingers at everyone else so that they can feel superior to others. They quote scripture with such absolute authority...and say, that is the way it is...

Do they think they are God? I thought he was the ultimate authority on scripture....I don't know how many people today on this site alone said I am not a Christian because I am gay...geesh...a lot of people thinking they are God out there and can see my heart.

I will pray for the fundamentalist's soul..because they must be very unhappy...trying to pass judgement on others just to justify their own meager existence....I'm not sure why we can't just all worship together, and try to make the world a better place...I would be happy to volunteer and help anyone, gay or straight...and thereby, show God's love.

I wish fundies would do the same.
