wow.... go into more detail... i know that we tip probably in the 18-20% range ourselves.... and give a whole lot more to those in missions .... so, are you sure this person you are lumping us all with, is a real christian or do they just belong to some church that gives them the 'label' of christian? there IS a difference!
I do wonder tho... when the service is horrible, place is a mess.... is anyone required to tip? what if the food is awesome but the service sucks... does the waiter/waitress pass the money to the cook/chef? there have been times when honestly, our waitress doesnt deserve a tip, let alone a wage for what she did while we were there... it is hard to know what to do in that case... do we automatically owe a tip when we receive nothing in return?

Wow. *Anne P.'s* reporting is simply PHENOMENAL. Anne, did you and Mr. Brooks account for the fact that atheists and agnostics make up only 1-2% of the population and if you factored that in you'd realize that they donate, volunteer, and give more time and energy to charity then most, if not all, individual religions? How very lacking your studies are! Did either of you bother to factor in exactly WHICH charities the religious and non were giving to? Tithes are considered charity although they only help maintain churches and pay salaries and light bills, much like corporate in any other company. With a tax break, of course. It is considered charity to donate to Neo-Nazi causes and anti-abortion extremists. We have the religious to thank for all their monetary support to televangelism and wall-building between supposed factions. Gee, thanks!
As for tipping, I am usually a 22-24% tipper; a bit less if the service was awful, more if it was terrific. I do have to agree that there are lots of people who tip badly though, not just Christians. Many children just aren't taught the importance of tipping and grow up being poor tippers. It's no excuse (media, charts, etc. all give advice on tipping) but I don't think it's a religious problem. Just an ignorant one. Although the two often go hand in hand. :)

Today's world is not a "Christian dominated society" at all. There may be a lot of people who profess Christianity, but claiming to be a Christian and actually being a Christian are two completely different things. Christianity isn't just something you say, it is your way of life. Now I'm not saying that you will never find a Christian who falls victim to premarital sex, pornography, drugs, or anything else you mentioned. Because even Christians make mistakes. But the people you are thinking of who do these things continuously and still profess Christianity are NOT truly Christians.

Yeah. I worked as a waiter on Sundays a long time ago. When the churches let out, the Christians would pour into the restaurant. Demographically, they were pretty lousy tippers (average about 12%). On the plus side, they weren't generally rude or obnoxious either.

In 2000, religious people gave about three and a half times as much as secular people — $2,210 versus $642. And even when religious giving is excluded from the numbers religious people still give $88 more per year to nonreligious charities.
Arthur C. Brooks writes that religious people are more likely than the nonreligious to volunteer for secular charitable activities, give blood, and return money when they are accidentally given too much change.
"There is not one measurably significant way I have ever found in which religious people are not more charitable than nonreligious people," Mr. Brooks says.
So no, I guess not.

Im Christian and i find this offensive and u probably meant for it to be. But im not a cheap skate....but then again im 13 and broke. my dad...when we go out to eat he leaves a good amount of cash....he gives money away to Feed The Children. does that seem greedy? i wouldnt think so. just because SOME Christians do what u said....doesnt mean all of them would. i know im browk n everything but the money i did have....its because i give it away to people who dont have any money. that doesnt seem greedy. dont judge one Christian and then judge the others based on that one judgement.
God bless. =]

All I know is that they certainly can NOT drive. Everytime someone cuts me off, doesn't use a blinker, nearly rear ends me, or some other stupid driving scenario, then I ALWAYS notice that damn fish on the back of their car, and I'm not talking about the Darwin fish either. It's definately the Christian's fish.

That's an interesting generalization. I am not rich, I am a Christian, and I'm a better tipper than my agnostic husband. Explain that.

I'm a Christian and I usually tip about 25%. Is that greedy? Are you a waiter? Just asking because you mentioned the tip thing, lol.
