out of wedlock is a sin, what special dispensation were Adam and Eve (and Lilith) given?
Or, was the act of creating the human race the original Original sin?

May 14, 1961 - Apostle Joseph Fielding Smith announces to stake conference in Honolulu:

"We will never get a man into space. This earth is man's sphere and it was never intended that he should get away from it."

Smith, the Twelve's president and next in succession as LDS President, adds:

"The moon is a superior planet to the earth and it was never intended that man should go there. You can write it down in your books that this will never happen."

This discourse was given while he was the "prophet".

The funny part is that after Apollo 15's journey to the moon, the astronaut team brought JFS a Utah State Flag that they had taken with them to the moon. They gave him the flag in 1971 as a token of his "failed prophecy".

You're 18 years old. You live on an island, but to the east you can see land.

You know, because it is written in The Olk, a book that has been passed down through the generations, and because you have been told since before you can remember that you must NOT leave the island or you will be submitted to torture for the rest of your very existence.

Yet the island is struggling with famine. Your family is dying because there is no food. And across the water you see fat, roaming beasts and lush forests with fruit and vegetables growing from the trees and ground.

You browse your copy of The Book, looking for any loophole, anything allowing you to cross that placid water and bring back food. In one trip you could kill a beast that would feed your family for a week.

But The Olk says you cannot. It says that the food is a test and that by letting your family die a horrible death by starvation you are showing your faith and will be rewarded.

Do you go get the food?

On here, of course, everyone says what they want. But why don't atheists laugh at and tease Christians, Jews, Muslims, whatever in public? They are, after all, hanging on to grown-up Santa Clauses.

I know Its not an atheist as that means you dont believe in anything spiritual.

The voice that told Moses to go to the Pharaoh identified himself as "Yahweh," meaning, in Old Hebrew, simply "to be."

Likewise, the commandment says "No other Gods before me." He doesn't identify himself other than saying, simply, "God."

I don't understand all the arguements over words. People put all their own ideas, philosophy, politics onto "God." Who told them to do that. The voice just said "the one that is."

Of course, we in the West have democracy and all those gaudy trappings that go with it, but are we really in a position to lecture people outside our barricaded world on how they should lead their lives, taking into account the extreme depravity we seem to have slipped in: debauchery, pornography, sexual promiscuity, family disintegration, loss of sense of morality etc?

From an agnostic's point of view, hardcore atheists are not much different than hard-core spiritualists -- they both believe something whole-heartedly without any proof. Agnostics believe that you should have an open mind and cannot dismiss any belief that is inherently unknowable. It's not indecisiveness. It's simply admitting that one cannot know the truth about God or the afterlife or how God functions, if there is one, until after we die.

Atheists believe (have faith) that there is no God. Religious people believe (have faith) that there is a God.

Discuss amoungst yourselves!

P.S. No thanks to all the people who wish to post scripture as proof or otherwise condemn me to hell. You have beliefs. Good for you. So do I. If you wish to respond to this question, answer the question that I have posed. Thank you.

What are great scriptures to build someone's self-confidence and identity in Christ?

If so, I would encourage you to read and study John 17-20 and Matthew 26-28.

I've been using it (Passion of the Christ) for a Bible study class and have found inconsistencies in the movie when compared to Scripture.

Have you found the same? If so, what and where (in the movie and Bible)

Example: Scene with Jesus drawing a line in the sand. The scene shows Mary Magdalene as the adulterous woman about to be stoned (The one without sin, cast the first stone...) However, Scripturally speaking, the only thing written in the Scriptures about Mary Magdalene is that Jesus cast out seven (7) demons from her.

I know this is a Hollywood film, I also know the screen write was done by Father Fitzgerald and Mel Gibson (Roman Catholic.) If we can get past "Hollywood" with this movie and look at the suffering Christ withstood for us and our sins, then it's a good movie.

With that said...what are your thoughts? Serious answers only.

Peace be with you.

What if you were the only person that believed it?

I know it makes it easier when you can go to a place of worship and other people believe the same thing, but would you doubt what you believed if you were alone in your faith?

How would you practice it differently, other than the fact that you would be alone?

Examples:
1 Why tell people who have Pagan beliefs, that their not going to heaven, but to hell. Or say it is Satan's religion, which clearly is not.
2. I notice at some Pow Wows; christians will protest across the street, because it goes against the christians bible.
3. I know that their good christians and bad christians, but why can't the good christians prevent the other christians from disrespecting other peoples beliefs in the way they live: stoping Fred Phillips at soldiers funerals, or stoping peoples rights to be recognized? Have christians police after themselves.

Instead of saying that they are not true believers of the faith & do nothing about it, or quote from bible text to prove that the bible so; why can't they accept people (human beings) for who and what they are?

Honestly, I don't think anyone will truly know if God exists or not until we are dead. My theory is that, I could be wrong, and you could be wrong. There could be something out there that we can't even fathom.

I'm agnostic. I believe that an open mind is the best policy. When put blinders on and totally discredit any one theory, we do an injustice to ourselves by not opening our minds for learning the truth, whatever it may be.

What do you think?

Role reversal.

Christians and Atheists, present your best arguments for the OTHER position. (i.e., if you are Christian, what are the best arguments AGAINST god's existence? ...if you are Atheist, what are the best arguments FOR god's existence?)

No embedded counterarguments! This should be tough for everyone.

Most convincing case wins... Good luck. :)

Lets check the facts......

There are approximately 1,902,095,000 Muslims upon the earth. they can't ALL possibly be evil, terror-loving extremists who want to conquer the Christian World.

Approximately, 10% of the world's population practices Wicca or some form of Neo-Paganism. ALL these people cannot be evil, weird, attention getting, Satan worshipping, drug induced practioners.

33% of the world practices Christianity so they can't ALL be ignorant, intolerant, bullies who want to convert everyone to their viewpoint.
