since i didnt read the bible until i was 'grown up' as you put it... yes, it holds water, it holds truth and it holds answers to most of my life's questions and problems.
I sought God when i realized that I couldnt go on in life doing things all on my own... I was making a mess of things, focussing on only my own needs and wants.... So, I got a new bible (NLT instead of the KJV i had, so i could understand the language) and I asked God to show me the truth... I wanted to KNOW for certain taht He was real and God and once I did that, I learned way more by reading the scripture than ever before. Why? because I allowed God into my life... and I am so thankful for all the changes that God did in my heart, my life and my family!
the 'more grown up' I get, the more true and real God and the Word is to me... and not because of a 'denomination'. I don't believe you have to be 'religious' for it was the 'religious zealots' of Christ's time that pushed for his death.

I grew up believing that but when I left home I also walked away from God and did my own thing. Before I came back a few years later I needed some evidence.
The secular evidence out there backs up all that the Bible says. The laws of science back up creation much more strongly than evolution. With the Dead Sea Scrolls we are confirmed that what we have in the Old Testament has been as meticlulously maintained and accruately reproduced throughout the eons, as professed. So many of the prophesies have come real, from relating to the nation of Isreal to the sign of these times, leave alone all the prophecies that Jesus Himself had to fulfill just to prove He was the messiah.
But even so, It wasn't untill I made a conscious decision to make Jesus Lord of my life that the knowledge and wisdom of all that scripture that I had read before would come alive and reveal an insight with God that was not possible without His Holy Spirit before hand. It really is a Spiritually living document designed by God to minister to us as we seek Him.
But the choice must be made first. If we don't give our lives to God, there is not much He can do with them.
To answer your question in a nutshell...there is enough evidence to be more than convincing to those seeking the truth, but those that don't want to be convinced will find excuses not to be. I beleive God wanted us to have enough info to use our heads but that there still needs to be an element of faith involved.

When I was young I thought as child, but now that I am old I put aside childish ways.
When I was young, I did not really care whether there was God or not, nor did it bother me whether the Bible was the word of God. However, now that I am old - it's not even that I began searching for answers, no, not me. But somehow, the grace of God got hold of me and God by his spirit revealed to me that the Bible is trull yhis word. So, I didn't require any proof anywhere, God himself took the initiative and revealed it so to me.
So, me as a christian have proof within me! His spirit in me testify and bears witness that the Bible is God's word, and there is no greater proof than that.

I required that it have the markings of the word of God. It needed to have evidence that it was of a divine source and not a human one. So I took the time to study the Bible. The key words here are study and time.
The proof still holds water. I am still a student of the Bible. And the more I study, the more I come away amazed and convinced that it is of a divine source; that it truly is the word of God. And I am very much grown up.

You are far from grown up if you believe the Holy Bible to be anything other then the true word of God. In fact if you do not believe in God's Word you do not believe in God period. If this is the case then you should repent of your sinful life and take hold of Jesus Christ this very instant. Failure to do so could result in eternal seperation from God. Don't laugh my friend. If you have trials and tribulation in this life imagine the same for all eternity. Seek the Lord while He may be found!

You have to look at history, and read the Bible, especially the New Testament.
Define "all grown up" when I turned 22 It did not hold as much water, because I did not want to have to live a moral life. Even thought I thought I was "all grown up" at 22.
Now that I am 43, I would say that I am "More grown up" than I was at 22 and it Religion holds more water than ever.
Peace!

I don't need proof in the physical sense. It is a matter of faith.
And yes, I still believe that the Bible has relevance today even though the lessons learned are from ages ago. You've heard the old expression, 'History repeats itself'? That is essentially why the Word of God is eternal. We may record history, but we have repeated previously done mistakes over and over again.

My mom and dad didn't tell me. I learned that when I grew up. As a reasoning, questioning, seeking adult looking for truth, I found a rhythm of truth if you will that resonated from the words in the bible.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can understand. It has to do with the effect God has on you when you give him the proper place in your life. God comes in and something is unlocked inside you and you feel the effects.

Simple. I've read the books. The consistency of theme, doctrince, and imagery. The historically accurate content. The prophecies fulfilled both within its own pages and in the centuries beyond. The affect that it has on the lives of those who believe it. And the conversation I have daily with the Author who explains and performs it all for me.

First of all, the Bible’s coverage of history, geography, and human origins; its accuracy as to science, culture, and customs; the candor, harmony, and integrity of its writers; and its prophecy.
But it is much more than that. The writers themselves testified that what they wrote originated with [Jehovah], the almighty God himself. This is the underlying reason for the Bible’s beauty of expression and, more important, its surpassing value as the book of life-giving knowledge and wisdom. Jesus, the Son of God, testified that the words he spoke “are spirit and are life,” and he quoted copiously from the ancient Hebrew Scriptures. “All Scripture is inspired of God,” said the apostle Paul, who spoke of the Hebrew Scriptures as “the sacred pronouncements of God.”—John 6:63; 2 Tim. 3:16; Rom. 3:1, 2.
There are about 8 required proof I can give, like: Historical Accuracy, Geographic and Geologic Accuracy, Races and Languages of Mankind, Scientific Accuracy, Culture and Customs, Candor of Bible Writers, but time does not permit, so I will give two (2): 1. The Bible Practicality, 2. Harmony of Writers.
1. The Bible Practicality:
If there were no other proofs of authenticity available, the Bible’s righteous principles and moral standards would set it apart as a product of the divine mind. Additionally, its practicality extends to every phase of daily living. No other book gives us a rational view of the origin of all things, including mankind, and of the Creator’s purpose toward the earth and man. (Gen., chap. 1; Isa. 45:18) The Bible tells us why man dies and why wickedness exists. (Gen., chap. 3; Rom. 5:12; Job, chaps. 1, 2; Ex. 9:16) It sets out the highest standard of justice. (Ex. 23:1, 2, 6, 7; Deut. 19:15-21) It gives right counsel on business dealings (Lev. 19:35, 36; Prov. 20:10; 22:22, 23; Matt. 7:12); clean moral conduct (Lev. 20:10-16; Gal. 5:19-23; Heb. 13:4); relationships with others (Lev. 19:18; Prov. 12:15; 15:1; 27:1, 2, 5, 6; 29:11; Matt. 7:12; 1 Tim. 5:1, 2); marriage (Gen. 2:22-24; Matt. 19:4, 5, 9; 1 Cor. 7:2, 9, 10, 39); family relationships and duties of husband, wife, and children (Deut. 6:4-9; Prov. 13:24; Eph. 5:21-33; 6:1-4; Col. 3:18-21; 1 Pet. 3:1-6); proper attitude toward rulers (Rom. 13:1-10; Titus 3:1; 1 Tim. 2:1, 2; 1 Pet. 2:13, 14); honest work as well as master-slave and employer-employee relationships (Eph. 4:28; Col. 3:22-24; 4:1; 1 Pet. 2:18-21); proper associations (Prov. 1:10-16; 5:3-11; 1 Cor. 15:33; 2 Tim. 2:22; Heb. 10:24, 25); settling disputes (Matt. 18:15-17; Eph. 4:26); and many other things that vitally affect our everyday lives.
2. Harmony of Writers:
The Bible was written over a period of more than 1,600 years by about 40 writers, with no disharmony. It has been widely distributed in tremendous numbers despite the fiercest opposition and the most energetic efforts to destroy it. These facts help to prove that it is what it claims to be, the Word of the almighty God, and that it is indeed “beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness.”—2Â Tim. 3:16.
Its inspiration is shown by the thorough consistency with which it emphasizes the theme of sanctification of Jehovah’s name by his Kingdom under Christ.
In conclusion, the authenticity of the Bible has been in no way as strikingly demonstrated as in the fulfillment of numerous prophecies, all showing the remarkable forevision of God [Jehovah] in foretelling the future. This prophetic Word is indeed “a lamp shining in a dark place,” and paying attention to it will strengthen the faith of those who desire to survive until all Kingdom prophecy is fulfilled in God’s everlasting new world of righteousness. The three tables that follow add further proof of the Bible’s authenticity in showing many of these prophetic fulfillments, as well as the harmony of the entire Hebrew and Greek Scriptures. With the passage of time, the Bible shines forth more and more brilliantly as being truly “inspired of God and beneficial.”—2Â Pet. 1:19; 2Â Tim. 3:16.
