For those who carefully study these books, it appears as if the writers (or teachers) seem to contradict their own teachings.

If it was indeed the word of God and can't be changed, then why was it? (PLEASE REMEMBER, THE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WHO DISBELIEVE IN GOD IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE WORK OF SATAN. SATAN EXIST BECAUSE GOD EXIST IN THE BOOKS... IT DOES NOT EXIST IN OTHER RELIGIOUS BOOKS)

However, scholars of each respective religions claim monopoly over truth. How can this be possible? In fact they seem to make their religion 'scientific' possible (www.harunyahya.com -check this site out for Quranic contradictions 'openly being interpreted as TRUTH') What do believers have to say?

How many times have we heard it here on R&S? It seems what Christians really want is for someone to validate their existing beliefs with homilies and pronouncements of "God Bless you" and "praise the Lord".

I grew up going to a Catholic School and studying theology. But I dont believe in it. There is just to much controversy over religion and science that I have lean toward the factoids of science. I do believe people need religion in there life or there would be chaos. Some people need religion to keep them going so that they know life is not to be taken for granted. I guess that would make me an agnostic. I just dont believe in anything i cannot see.
Not alot of people i know share my similar views. I was just curious who else does.

I just cannot get the reason for the insults and name calling by those who seem to be anti-christian. Is that necessary, some of you will answer this question for one reason only, to throw out insults.
What do you expect at the RELIGION and SPIRITUAL web site anyway? Questions about what, if not R&S? That is the sole purpose of this site, why do you have a problem with that? Why all the insults and attacks and name calling? Why do you question a persons intelligence simply because you don't agree with them. Respectful people can have different opinions without insults and name calling. What is wrong with you???????????

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful...the Best Knower.

If I take the position that "whatever I can observe, I am not that", then what, exactly, am I, since I can observe my surroundings, my body and its functions, and even my thoughts? If I am neither of these, what am I?

If it is true that the "I" sees all but itself, then is "self-awareness" possible?

The majority of reasons, I've heard for the beliefs of agnostics and atheists, is rooted in a perspective of the universe which manifests before us. At the same time, many self-proclaimed agnostics and atheists hold their views because they find difficulty accepting particular beliefs and philosophies against personal moral convictions. Why does this almost always translate to immorality in the Christian view?

Also, with all of the selfishness, hate, greed, and negligence that exists in humanity that man can supposedly be redeemed of, how is DOUBT the only impirically punishable crime in the afterlife?

We have found a lot of dinosaur footprints. The so called Christian paleontologists have found the footprints of dinosaurs together. If dinosaurs lived before Great Flood why are there still those footprints? Wouldn’t the heavy rain that occurred before the flood and the pressure exerted by the high water column clear away those footprints? If the swirling of the Great Flood were so powerful enough to form the Grand Canyon wouldn’t those swirling and currents of Great Flood have cleared away all dinosaur footprints?

I am not Christians, so the soul concept is not something I readily accept. However, I am wondering if religious believers think that only humans have souls or if animals and such have souls as well. Please explain why you think that only humans do or why you think animals do as well.

Its a serious question. Are other earthly creatures capable of entering Heaven? Is God reserved only for humans?

They don't even believe it themselves? Seriously, so many answers about the bible end up being "Ah, but that wasn't meant literally, it meant..." They say it is interpretation, yet I find that interpretive art is generally NOT interpreted the way the artist meant, and so I don't think the bible would be any different.

Why read the bible if you simply say that it is not meant the way it is written? So many Christians interpret it to mean what they want it to, and so it seems they could do this just as well without the bible.

Technically, an organism that feeds off of another organism while contributing nothing to the host is a parasite. Naturally people would remove a parasite.

So, isn't an unborn child a parasite?

First of all, I am pro-life. I just want to find out why people believe the way they do. I am pro life because of the potential every organism, no matter how developed, has in its continued existence.

Anyway, what do you believe? Also, I undersand the "A woman has the right to do what she wants with her body" thing, but shouldn't she have to be responsible for her decisions, and is ending a life really an appropirate way to maintain autonomy?

Oh, and I believe that raped women should carry offspring of such relation to term and give them up for adoption instead of aborting them.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question "would you recognise a miracle if you saw one?". This was the central question of a play I've just seen called "Underneath the Lintel". Most people assume anything claiming to be a miracle has to be a "Ta-dah" moment, a presentation of some kind. In the play though, the central character starts off with something odd - a library book returned 113 years late - that leads him to another clue, and another, and ultimately to believe in the existence of a mythical character "cursed by God" to walk the Earth for all time. My supplementary question then is: Would you find it easier to believe something inexplicable if you found it yourself in stages, or if it was presented to you as a fait accompli?
