They don't even believe it themselves? Seriously, so many answers about the bible end up being "Ah, but that wasn't meant literally, it meant..." They say it is interpretation, yet I find that interpretive art is generally NOT interpreted the way the artist meant, and so I don't think the bible would be any different.

Why read the bible if you simply say that it is not meant the way it is written? So many Christians interpret it to mean what they want it to, and so it seems they could do this just as well without the bible.

It has to be interpreted, because it has no integrity. One would expect that the Holy Word of the Omnimpotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient Creator would be superlative in every respect. It would be clear, concise, accurate, definitive, and consistent. Because it is none of those things, it is subject to personal interpretation, to such an extent that even the clear passages are interpreted. Thou shalt not kill. Clear, concise, definitive. Everyone knows that to kill means to take the life. Somehow, they have changed the word to "murder", referring only to humans. Isn't God intelligent enough to use the word "murder"? He uses the word elsewhere, but not in the commandment. He says, "Thou Shalt Not Kill", without qualification. If it is subject to interpretation, what is the value? If you cannot discern the truth, than what is the use of it? How many different "Christian" sects are there that use the exact same text? They cannot even agree amongst themselves what the truth is. It is only with convenience to themselves that they call themselves Christians.

They don't even follow their own teacher, Jesus Christ, from whom they derive their so-called religion. I rarely ever hear them quote Jesus, nor do they follow the commandments that HE instructed them to follow. Because Paul made everything convenient for them, they follow Paul, but Paul is not the authority. They are Paulians, or Peterists, but there is no way they are Christians. They are lying to themselves, and decieving millions with their hypocrisy.

One can not take every word in the Bible literally. There are too many patently ridiculous statements in it.
Even Christians who think the Bible must be taken literally pick and choose. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of verses that are not paid attention to because they are 'no longer applicable.' And yet, these same people will pound OTHER verses down people's throats to say that THOSE verses must be taken literally.

Ironic, ain't it?
