They are inappropriate, redundant (the deceased usually have a gravesite with a headstone, right?) and possibly illegal. They don't belong on public rights-of-way where they may contribute to more accidents.

.....People die in all sorts of unexpected places (a fellow employee dropped dead of a heart attack in the aisle of our office, right before my and my coworkers' eyes) and in accidents other than vehicular ones, but you don't see crosses springing up everywhere someone dies -- mostly on roadsides. I guess one person started it and then it spread.... "monkey see, monkey do".

They are sad to see. It's kind of weird to me in a way that people memoralize those places. I think I would want to avoid it, as it holds depressing memories. I guess it's a personal choice and some people prefer to return and memoralize the place of death of their loved ones. I hate to see it because it just reminds me how unsafe the roads are sometimes (I'm already a paranoid driver).

They are fine if kept simple. I have seen some that were so big they blocked the view ahead.

Florida is getting ready to ban them for that exact reason

Doesn't really make a difference to the dead person's soul but it sometimes helps the family. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

They make me so sad because around here (KY) they are usually placed where kids and teens are killed. Most of the time, speed and recklessness are the cause and that is such a waste.

I think they are morbid, who would want to remember where someone died. I mean every time you drive by it your like "oh yeah, there's where Billy died in a tragic car accident, I love to see that and remember".
