Why do people, or you, say this?
I've seen this statement on YA referring to "hell, baptism, Jesus, God, Satan, resurrection, etc." as if the Bible is the comprehensive source for knowledge on any of these topics.
It seems contradictory to what the Bible itself suggests, that is there are other sources of learning/understanding.

Prayer or revelation - "Ask and you shall receive, knock and it shall be opened to you." (Matthew 21:22, 1 John 3:22) "If any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask in faith." (James 1:5)

Inspiration of the Holy Ghost - "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things." (John 14:26)

Good deeds/actions - "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." John 7:17

And other sources obviously exist (see John 21:25), including secular and historical knowledge that should not be dismissed.

So what are your thoughts, why do you/some say this?

Recently a Vandemeer scholar and a pious laureate both came on here declaring that 82% of Americans believe in Jesus; and 82% cannot be wrong, they concluded.

These 82% believe not only rose he from the dead, but also he rose into the sky, and hovered there a while in thought; then departed unto Heaven.
Presumably 82% of Americans believe these things, and others; and also pray to Jesus.

And so I resolved to investigate, and here is what I found: There is critical mass of believers, whereat and beyond which an idiotic belief is actually transformed into fact.

It's called the Believers' Critical Mass.

I have not yet determined what that threshold is, but surely 82% exceeds it splendidly.

Question: Based on these findings, would you athiestic people out there be willing to reconsider your preconceived ideas concerning Jesus?

I asked a similar question earlier but it got sidetracked into the creationist ID thing and that wasn't specifically what I was thinking of, I was thinking of things like Accelerated Christian Education where Christianity is woven into every lesson whether it be maths or geography and the children are taught inn isolation in cubicles, can this be acceptable, isn't it an abuse of the child's freedom of religion to impose the parents religious choice on children like this? what do you think?

Does it bother you that people actually believe in God? Or does it only bother you when those people try to force their ideas on you? I've seen alot of posts lately degrading the idea of believing in God, not the actions of "so-called Christians".

ok, so it's 13.7 Billion years old, but please give the Chapter and verse in the Bible, if you're refering to the "6" days (Or 6 yoms) thing, then a day does not necessarily mean 24 hours or 1000 years, In Arabic (And probably hebrew since both have things in common) a day means "Stage" or "Phase".

and please state verse and chapter.

It wasn't Satan's idea to torture humans, it's Gods, and he commanded Satan to do it. What would God do then, if he couldn't cause pain to his children?

Before, most people thought the world was flat, but today, thru simple observations we know that it's round.

Before, most people thought African Americans were inferior to Whites, but today, that is totally diminished thru equality of modern times.

Before, most people used 'gods' to explain natural phenomena (god of sun, god of fire, god of sea), but today, thru scientific reasoning, most people agree that's as totally bogus.

Before, most people believe in a 'god', to worship and serve and devote their entire lives to, simply because of their existence and on the false promise of eternal life (just to name a few), but TOMORROW....most people realize how delusional that is, and learn to value and appreciate this life for what it is, concentrating on humanity concepts, rather than supernatural ideals, therefore eliminating all religious differences/beliefs on earth, and in turn ending all conflict/violence found in most wars.

it's a trend. common sense will prevail.

Don't be rude, or accusatory because I'm asking this as a legimate question. No I'm not an Atheist.

Over 3000 soldiers have died in Iraq. Many of their families prayed for them to come home.
Millions of people in Africa die of aids every year. Many of them pray.
Thousands of single mothers work two jobs, take care of three kids, and can't make ends meet. They pray every night for a better life.
Everyday people are beaten, raped, robbed, murdered. Many of them pray/prayed.

I honestly want to know where the proof is that it works. Ok people will say that "Prayer is used to do God's will"....okay I've read the bible and that doesn't seem like his will. Others will say "You can't be selfish with prayer"....what's selfish about wanting to be happy, healthy and alive? or wanting it for other people?

These prayers supposedly worked, what's less worthy about wanting to stop the things I listed above?

I've been told by Christians that without god to be the supreme judge over all issues of morality then we would be stuck with might makes right.... Those with the biggest guns make the rules.

If anyone looks at this claim they see the flaw. Christian morality is itself a might-makes-right philosophy. The only difference is that their gun is god's supposed wrath.

Is it really moral for a being that is so different from us to dictate what we should and shouldn't do? Is it not coercion for one entity to punish others for transgressions against their opinion of what is right and wrong? Isn't it contradictory to say that your god can kill, or that one should kill for god's honor, but also say that killing is wrong?

Consider this. Pretend you are an omniscient being... you know everything there is to know about the universe and possibly beyond... or do you?

If you were this being it would be impossible for you to know what it's like to not know everything... so that would be some knowledge you don't have which would exempt you from omniscient status.

In his autobiography 'WINGS OF FIRE' Dr.kalam narrates an incident after losing is first interview with the Airforce, that he met a swamiji and swamiji consoled him and said that "your destiny is predetermined" and DR.Kalam also agrees with it.
A staunch disbeliever of astronomy how does he believe in destiny being predetermined.if so the millions of our country men who clean human excreta -are they destined to do that? millions of our country women who work in the fields and whose skin are parched by the sun - are they destined to do that?millions of our children who die of malnurition-are their fate so determined?
is the saying "CHOICE NOT CHANCE DETERMINES DESTINY " True or false

Ephesians 5 (New International Version)

22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

If not, what does this passage mean?

'cos saying that we the Christians are ''fanatics ''or ''mentally ill'' it is not only an offence to the Christians, it means strongly defying God.

So can you tell me why do the Christians accept this ...to be called ''fanatics'',''mentally ill'', if they believe God exists , or if they affirm satan exists...Well I personal think that satan does this because he knows we must affirm that God exists and satan (His enemy )exists , otherwise ...God won't let us enter Heaven...if we don't affirm these...complete Truth...But now , I am interested to hear some opinions..why do the Christians accept to be called ''fanatics ''or ''mentally ill''if they say they believe God exists ....I think they take advantage of the fact that we are Christians and don't want to sue them...Because our model is God , and even Jesus , Son of God , having also an eternal condition of God , let the people crucify Him , kill Him...instead of flooding them again...or just sending them into fire .
