First, if you already have one child who has been Baptised in the Catholic Church, you are not required to repeat the classes.

The classes are not burdensome, and you can even take them before the child is born. Usually one or two sessions, no more than two hours each.

Now, I have a question for you...

Why, as a parent, would you NOT want to attend the classes? The reason for the classes is simple. In a Catholic Baptism, the parents are required to stand before the congregation and make promises to God that they will raise their child in the Catholic faith.

The classes are there to be sure you understand the seriousness of what you are about to do.

No one can receive a Sacrament without being prepared for that Sacrament. In this case, the parents are speaking for the child, so the parents are prepared.

The sad fact is, most people did not pay very close attention when they were in religion class. Hopefully, with their child's soul on the line, parents are more willing to learn!

Okay. It seems that you may actually be asking a different type of question. But firstly, I will answer your actual question. No. To be Catholic you must be baptized.

Now, perhaps your asking about RCIA classes? That is the group of classes that you need to attend prior to entering into the Catholic church. If you are asking about that, it is not required that you go through RCIA. However you do need to have some type of initiation process since there is so much to learn. And we want you to understand everything before becoming a member.

Since you give no indication of where your location is I can't assist you in directing you to people who could be your sponsors outside of an RCIA setting. If you wish you may contact your local church and state you wish to have a sponsor from RCIA however you do not (or unable to) wish to come to the classes.

Blessings

I suppose we will have the Vatican with us until the end of the age. I know that within the realm of Catholicism are many children of God, saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ. But sadly the Catholic church teaches the traditions of men as the commandments of God, and that really muddies the waters. By that I mean that you will probably have to jump through hoops at any Catholic church where you want to be baptized.

They all do or they are not Catholic. Many people want to have their children baptized so they can feel like they are the GOOD parents but, they never bring their children to church after that. This is what the Church wants to avoid.

What, yo have to take baptism classes?

Damn, I'm glad I'm not Catholic. I don't mean anything against you or any other Catholic it's just I don't like taking classes for anything. 6 years in college was enough.

If you do not want to be baptized then why go to a catholic church, because that is the whole point of becoming a catholic.
