If George W. Bush really wanted to win the hearts and minds of people in the middle east - wouldn't he quit torturing people?
Funny - if you're a certain kind of American Christian, you have the same answer to two several different questions:
What makes Satan so horrible - he tortures unbelievers.
What makes GW so great - he tortures unbelievers.
Ok, not funny really, but ironic, don't you think?

I am not a Bible scholar but I don't believe it was God's idea to torture people. It was Satan's.God just tells him how far he can go.God ALLOWS suffering but he doesn't cause it. You could be right and I could be wrong about that..One of the reasons God allows suffering is test our faith.Remember the conversation that
God and Satan had about Job in the Bible?God told Satan that Job was faithful and a good man.Satan told God that Job was only that faithful because he,(God)had blessed him so much.It was then that God ALLOWED Satan to bring tribulation into Job life to prove that REGARDLESS of what befelled Job,Job would not lose faith in Him,(God). Now this my theology only but I believe God and Satan have this conversation about us. When we have trials,(torture)God has allowed it but not caused it.There is a diiference. Our faith is being tested. Also God will allow suffering in areas of our lives that He feels we need to be strengthened in.As humans though,we tend to focus on what the trial is instead of the lesson or 'spiritual'picture.God does'nt allow suffering just to watch us suffer. He has a reason for everything He allows. If He felt you could'nt handle it,He would not allow the trial in the first place.God told Satan that he could do anything he wanted to do to Job but not to kill him.So God put a LIMIT on what Satan could do and how far he could go.The next time you go through a trial or suffering, remember that God already knows how much you can bear.He says to Satan,(depending whether you are a male or female) "That is my son,(or daughter)and he or she can handle it".He justifies you everyday to the accuser,(Satan).

When does Satan torture people? In the Bible, it's always God making plagues, earthquakes, fires, floods, wars, etc. to punish people for their wickedness. According to Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." It doesn't say that Satan creates evil, only that God does. People ought to quit blaming poor Satan for stuff he doesn't do!

you won't get a straight answer to this i asked something similar before. all i got was a lot of evasive babble and accusations of hating Christianity, which you've already got even though its a reasonable question politely phrased. if we go by the internal logic of the christian interpretation of the bible, then the greatest evil Satan could do is quit and not play any part in gods plan, because god's word and plan supersedes any normal human interpretation of morality.

somehow by this post I get the feeling you are anti Jesus, anyways I don't really think the general idea of god putting the devil into his current power was to "torture his children" somehow I would have to think it was meant to punish the wicked
