Ephesians 5 (New International Version)

22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

If not, what does this passage mean?

by no means was my intent to state my opinion on this. I am wondering what other interpetations are.

I only included a small passage because it leads me into a second question.

Can you take the Bible word for word? If not why is vague or lacking distinct definition?

Interesting interpretationof a retranslaton of a retranslation of a.......

Here is the same text from the KJV

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Okay, No I do not agree with your interpretation of this scripture.

The scripture is refering to the co-realtionship of husband and wife as an analogy to the relationship of the chruch to Christ. The relationship of Christ to his church was that of the eclesiastical head. Thier teacher and Priesthood Leader. Christ led in rightousness and in a disposition of being a servant, he honored men and women equally.

The verse indicates that women should submit to thier husbands in so much as he acts and leads in rightousness and honors that which is required as the patriarchal leader of the home.

This in no way lessens or diminishes the status and or value of women. It only requires more of men in order to be worthy of the role.

Read on where men are admonished to submit to there wives. Does this diminish men? No.

The bible (not always those who claim to follow it) honors women and recognises them as the unique form blessed with the abiliy to carry and nurture new life. It was women chosen and visited by angels of God to usher in the coming of the savior in flesh, Don't pull and site limited references with twisted interpretation indicate that which is inconsistant with the word of God (the overriding principles and concepts as are evidenced in life and tied to natural law which is a part of the law and word of God.

All truth resides in consistancy to that which as been proven and that which it true but yet to be proven and will eventually be revealed. It serves to forward our progress toward enlightenment.

The bible became written by technique of an same human beings's interior of an same violent and archaic factors that bred violent warlords that nonetheless that god ought to consult them too. This quite isn't information. actually it really is faith. it really is staggering in case you do not convert. some will declare that that scripture would not note to them seeing as nonetheless that's the old testomony, although why do a touch declare that the tale of introduction to be authentic that is interior the old Testment, yet declare that the scriptures that the guy who requested this question to be pretend? in case you run with that mentality those who trust that the introduction tale be authentic, then so does the sexist ideology of the scripture listed interior the question. If the bible is gods be conscious, then he be a psychopath that Hitler may've loved.

If a husband is the head of his household and wife in the same manner as Jesus is the head of the church. Then the husband is required to behave toward his wife in a christ-like manner. This means with love, respect, tenderness, faithfulness, and just authority. It does not mean that any man has the right to abuse or treat his wife in any other way. But, what is most important is the fact that the man has to have a christ-like heart and faith in God. If he does not, he will not behave this way and does not have the right to abuse those verses for his own gain. I am sick and tired of men using God's word for their own purposes and not following it themselves. We should all treat one another with love and respect, but husbands would probably keep their wives longer if they loved them in a christian way. Try it and see how it works.

No, the Bible does not mean that women are somehow less than men. Men have their ablilities and responsibilities, and women have theirs.
There are many situations in life where people have to submit to others. We as citizens submit to our lawmakers. We as employess submit to our bosses. Church members submit to their pastors. And in the institute of marriage, women are told to submit to their husbands. It has nothing to do with men being better -- it's a matter of someone needs to take the lead, and men naturally do that.
It also interesting to note that the Bible instructs women to only submit to their husbands. When a woman gets married, her husband is the only man she has to answer to. She is not subject to obey every man in church, or every man in her life, just her husband. Paul intructed this so married people can please each other and not have their marriage torn apart by outside influences.

I've answered this before:

Part of being a woman, is that we came from a man. We are supposed to be the helpmate, the one God brought from Adam's heart. That beginning tells what the natural relationship is between a man and a woman. It became unnatural, as the Genesis story unfolded. That is when they sinned, and God had to prepare the world for the Word, His Son, to come to it and show us how we must live in order to please the Father, His Father. Who would know how, unless He was the Son. Notice we needed a manGod, the counterpart to Adam, for a redeemer.

women are not lesser, we just have different roles. the man is supposed to be the leader, God wanted it that way. it doens't mean women are less. women are to be submissive because the man is supposed to be the guide of the family. but if the man is unable to be a good leader(a godly man), then the woman does not have to be submissive, which really means the woman still choses God first, just as the man should, and all else in life will follow. there are instances in the Bible where a woman is the leader, when a good man could not be found (it escapes me where it is and when it was, but i could find it if you'd like)

You have to couple those with some other understanding of what Christ-like leadership is. Remember, Jesus taught that who ever is greatest, or chief, among you, will be your servant.

A husband's role is indeed to lead like Christ, through an example of love and service. Any other type of leadership (abusive or mean) is not what Christ taught or endorsed.

It means a woman should sumit to the husband. But it goes on to say that a husband should love his wife like Jesus does the church. In other words, equal partners.

You've only shown those verses that support your question. If you read the NT, you will find all kinds of admonitions to the husbands. In fact, if you're in Ephesians you could not have missed them.

For thousands of years men have been considered as the stronger sex in the bible and in our communities today.
This is mainly because all of god's deciples were men and so are most of our gods, and even though there are women gods they preach about love and peace, which makes them seem weak.
However, in reality, women and men are actually equal. Men are known to be stronger physically and women mentally, although men do possess mental strength and woment do possess physical strength.
