It's telling non-believers everyday that Jesus is real, but they just ignore it. They must be selfish like they're too good for Jesus.

I doubt this is a new issue but, it's new to my little hick town so I thought I'd post this question to get some opinions. Recently, two kids died in a car accident on a public highway. The mother of one of the victims erected a small wooden cross with the girls' initials, their pictures & flowers. The little piece of land that she put this memorial on happens to be private property but it's viewable from the public highway. Since this is the oh so open minded southern bible belt, there are maybe 6 people who aren't Christian or Baptist here. A few people have asked that the memorial be removed or placed out of view because it is associated with Christianity. Naturally, people are going bananas about it. I'd like to know if anyone who happens not to believe in Christianity (me being one of them) thinks this is a valid request. Is this another example of religion being pushed upon people who have no interest in it or just a small thing being blown out of proportion? Thoughts?

My experience has been that the people who most often criticize and are contemptuous of the Bible are people who are completely unfamiliar with its contents. They have lots of (usually misguided) ideas about what's in it, but can form no cogent arguments or meaningful defense against it.

Or are there always understandable reasons (such as hate, hurt, boredom, revenge, fear, insanity, etc.) as to why people do cruel things to others?

You can open the door; he cannot.
You can open a can of dog food; he cannot.

What other things can you do, that your dog cannot do, and would cause your dog to think that you are God?

Galileo was persecuted by the most fundamentalists of creationists. Maybe if creationism was a NEW and ORIGINAL theory like say evolution when it came out then they could make that analogy, but it's older than the world being center of the universe.

I just did the so called "Christian good person's" test, which taught me that I'm a bad, bad person, because I broke some of their commandments. I seem to be a liar, because once I told a mother that her baby was beautiful, while in fact the kid looked like a melted E.T.

So, according to the Bible, I fall short from God's Glory, because I was nice.

If Jesus was 'the only one who never sinned', that means most of the time he wasn't nice? Or how do I explain this concept? He never lied?

Oh well, the actual question here, I guess, is: Why create a "Good Person's Test" based on a book with rules that nobody can completely live up to anyway?

I have met a number of Mormons, or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they are nice people. But cannot understand how they see Joseph Smith as this great prophet.. As a Christian I believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. How could Joseph Smith fit in there? It also seems to me there are quotes in the New Testament about the Holy Bible being a closed book.

What are the gold plates? What evidence do we have that they existed or not? I recall some objective source dismissed the plates, or some Latter Day Saint documents as being forgeries. Compared to the Old Testament, the Mormons should be better documented, since it is so much more recent. What gives the revelation of Joseph Smith legitmacy?

The thing that puzzles me about the Mormons is their mixing it with Christianity. It is like using kool aid and pop tarts for Communion. Any and all responses appreciated.

Why is it that all proofs for the existence of god fall under one of these two catagories?

Category 1
Proofs where they use an emotional appeal to prove god:
the value of X is so incredible that a god must exist!
OR
It's inconcieveable to think that event X happened without god.

Category 2
Proofs that use flawed logic to prove god:
The value of X was created by the value of Y, so humans(X) must have been created by a creator(Y)

Why?
