Meditation describes a state of concentrated attention on some object of thought or awareness. It usually involves turning the attention inward to the mind itself. Meditation is often recognized as a component of Eastern religions, having originated in Vedic Hinduism. It has also become mainstream in Western culture. It encompasses any of a wide variety of spiritual practices which emphasize mental activity or quiescence. Meditation can be used for personal development, or to focus the mind on God (or an aspect of God). Many practice meditation in order to achieve peace, while others practice certain physical yogas in order to become healthier.

Meditation is a state of mind when you become thoughtless and the body becomes totally relaxed. It is a state of being non-existent. The problems with meditation are that when you try to calm yourself down you become conscious. This is self-defeating as you should not be making an effort and yet that state is reached. One nice way to meditate would be make your body feel like a bag of salt that has been submerged in water. Gradually the salt dissolves into the water. Similarly, you have to imagine that you are getting thinned out in the atmosphere and your soul has merged with the supreme. When you reach that stage you are said to be in samadhi.

It is a state of being, like walking, talking, sleeping etc...
We can be meditative, when we choose to be so , consciously.
Initially, we may need some practice , and the technique for practice is more popular as 'meditation', though the practice itself would not really constitute meditation.

Meditation can be a variety of different things, depending on who you are. The most commen view of meditation is sitting with your legs crossed, feet touching thighs, palms up, thumb touching index finger, and saying ohhhmmmmm........, and just closing your eyes relaxing, and gathering your thoughts. Sorting yourself out, and calming yourself. Gathering yourself. Go to wikipedia, and look up meditation. Then go to google, and search "Wiki how meditation" then click the result form WikiHow

Meditation is nothing but concentrating on one thing.
Mind keeps on thinking. Body does the action. If both can be synthesised into one that becomes meditation. How long one can keep it together depends on his efforts.

For me, it's just entering a state of observance instead of concious effort to think. I just let images slide by. It's very peaceful and you'd be suprised what images surface. You can learn a lot.

My best way of describing my experience with it is imagine you are a scuba diver, underneath the water. It's quiet, and you're just kind of observing the beauty around you. You can't talk, and you almost feel like you're in a bubble. Maybe it takes us back to the womb or something, I don't know.
