Why not teach the controversy?

wouldn't you give up?

Some people out there, some very smart people, say they believe in god and can also understand that different people see god as a different thing. It confounds me that anyone can think this and not follow it through to it's obvious conclusion that the reason the idea of god is so subjective is because it's nothing more than a belief... a personal belief.

God belief is never based on fact or knowlege, it's always based on faith and emotional appeal. How can someone who understands this still believe that this thing exists? Is it their own emotional appeal?

Please, if you are going to show your ignorance by writing these people off as liberals (as if that were a bad thing) or just fling scripture at me (i've heard it all before) don't bother... I'm looking for real answers.

Would the world be a better place if you could walk and drive on water and stuff if you had faith?

Just imagine if you got stuff you needed because you prayed for it. If you were hungry a McDonalds Happy Meal fell from the sky...

Would the world be better if we could road trip across the ocean from the US to the UK?

Would the world be better if a family member died and you wanted them back you could take them to the local miracle worker and have them revived?

Or if you were having a birthday party and you didn't plan that many guests and you could conjure up some extra food?

that logic is their God or there center of existence; where does that come from, our 10% usage of our brain (considering that modern medicine hasn't figured the brain out 100%); take a look around, there isn't any logic in life? If you look for logic, you come up empty handed.

This is for a project. Do you visit any websites that allow you to pray online, or challenge your religious teachings online? Anything that involves the web and religion and is kind of different would work. Thanks!

Is it a sin to be Buddhist? It seems to me that it must be. I mean, unless he accepts Jesus, a Buddhist is surely bound for hell, right? This makes no sense at all to me. Would God allow a pious, prayerful Buddhist to suffer the same eternity in hell for being Buddhist as the unrepentant child molester and serial killer? They both suffer the same eternity in hell?

Please don't tell me that not all Christians believe this. I know that. I am addressing this question to those Christians here who DO believe this, that hell is a real place, a lake of fire where bad human beings burn forever and that prayerful, highly moral Buddhists will go there when they die simply because they were Buddhists.

And I'm saying so.

I have three choices for my religious beliefs
1. I can be a total Theist -- meaning that god not only made all of this, but keeps watch as well. And the bible tells me that the god of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all of fiction --jealous and proud of it, petty, unjust, bloodthirsty, racist, sends disease, and is infanticidal, and an unforgiving control freak.
2. I can be a Diest -- meaning that god made all this, then let it go, and let it be on its own....(In which case, why pray?)
3.. I can be a Pantheist -- meaning that god is everything and everywhere, as well as a set of physical laws that govern the universe, as well as energy.... This would mean that I am praying to the laws of gravity, (Physical laws) and a lump of coal (energy) not very satisfying,
4. I can be an Atheist--- and that gods are a delusion.... and that if one person believes in a delusion, we call him nuts. If many do, we call it religion.
So, what or who is god, and why?

kind of Christian theocratic state. This is so absurd, in fact it is so absurd i figure colleges are teaching it. Do these non Christians consider all the different churchs and faiths of Christians there are? Are a Catholic and a Baptist going to agree on how to take over and subject the country? What a joke. How totally lame. How ignorant they are of people who believe.

I thought you did believe, and really hate the anti-god stuff, yet your questions seems to be trying to adress atheists. If you believe, why do you care so much? Is it a justification? I honestly don't get it., and am not trying to disrespect. What do you need to prove?

I wake up knowing I have just been doing it cause my thumb feels like I have been sucking on it. I quit sucking my thumb when I was 11, but I seem to do it in my sleep since I have lived on my own.

I am just worried someone will get a photo of this. Is there a way to make my unconscious mind stop doing this?

On a similar note I am worried I might "touch myself" when I sleep too, is there anything I can do to make sure I don't?

For explanation: My youth group is doing student-led discussions. I am talking about suicide in a few weeks. I need a few different links from anyone here. I've been using Google and Ask.com for some research. Any help is appreciated! Links are most helpful so that I can fully delve in and investigate and reference, etc. A few of the questions that he said we should answer are:

What does the Bible say about suicide?
What are some stastics of suicide? [___ suicides daily, etc.]
Verses in the Bible
Christian Author's POV on suicide [going straight to hell or heavn/hell depending on the situation = it's up to God]
Atheist/Other religion Author's POV on suicide

I was thinking it would be great if I could find a forum that discussed topics like this, with Christian and non-Christian views and things like that.
