Because in Christian schools they teach out-dated science. Depending on how fundie the school's text books are it can range anywhere from 40 years outdated to 400 years outdated. I kid you not. I used to attend such a school.

Because the scientific theories where wrong about some things they said.
The Christians can't attack people scientific theories because now or days they developed a new weapon that not even a religious nut will try them
and that weapons is Facts.... you see the only way scientific theories can shut the idiots up is to back up what they say with facts
because if you have the facts about what you say is true, then who is going to questions what you say?
the theories that the Christians are attacking did not have the technology to back or prove what they say is true but now they have the upper hand when it comes to disproving Christians at there own stupid game
The really funny thing about the christian in today's world is that they know that they cant beat some body that have facts so they have to develop there own weapon to try to counter the theories
the Christians new weapon is really not new but its more effective and its called brain washing
you see if the Christians can get enough people in there religion to throw off the theories then no body will question them because they will only believe in there religion only.

First they would need to understand a modern theory. This is difficult. Most modern theories are expressed more as mathematical equations or inequalities. Some of the expressions are complex and take up huge program spaces. some are deceptively simple looking. Most defy expression in human languages.
Even 80 year old theories such as relativity or quantum mechanics do not translate well into English. There are no common concepts to express the reality those theories deal with, even though we have been living with their results for over 70 years.

Disproven scientific theories.? Didn't know atheists believe in those. Maybe those disproven 'scientific' theories prove the failure of science to disprove the Bible.
I thought Christians did dispute today's theories---which all they are saying is that a theory is not necessarily a fact.

Really good point - I'm doing a post grad in theology at Oxford Uni and there are a lot of Christians here who are working with today's theories.
Check out Alistair McGrath on science or Oliver O'Donivan on philosophy for example
I'm sure there are people in the other major universities around the world who are doing the same.
A great organisation that I think you'd really like is the Zaccerius Trust (check it out on line) you'll find they engage with real life appologetics rather than make straw men.
Hopefully this will filter down to everyday Christian thinking sooner or later

People, not just Christians, tend to get defensive about that which they do "believe" but do not "know" when questioned. As a result they also tend to "attack" or become overt about that which counters or is not congruent with that in which they believe.
I think, in reference to your question, that most often people who attack disproven theories do so out of a lack of knowlege.
To your point about inccuracys of "teachings" in the bible, I would have to have clarification as to what you term "teachings." If you are suggesting references of physical location, names of items, or references of a temporal nature, sure, I as a Christian, will agree there are inaccuracies throughout the bible. I have never encounterd a work of any sort that at the hands of men did not have inaccuracies. It is the nature of our state here.
That does not address, in my oppinion, the teachings of or the word of God. The teachings or priciples of faith, while somewhat distorted by men are still evident and availible to men in the bible and in various other works. They are consistant, and confirmable, to those who are willing to study, ponder, work them out in their own minds, put them into practice, then take their resolve before God in prayer with a willing and humble heart.
The "teachings" of the bible are true, varifiable through natural law, and confirmable via his spirit. You may deny it if you choose but that does not make it so.
Love ya; Really!

Can you give some examples of what you're talking about?
Here is a scientific fact I know. There is a verse in Job that says God stretched out the North over the empty place and Astronomers have proven there is a black hole or empty place in the Northern Sky.
I just read a story of Francis Colman who mapped the human genome and is a man of Faith and Science.

Because it takes that long to come up with a counter-argument.
Actually, "Piltown Man" was a deliberate hoax, along the lines of the recent Korean cloning scandal, so all they're "proving" is that some scientists are capable of lying. Science eventually uncovers and corrects the errors. Faith does not have a well-defined apparatus for such corrections.

Not all Christians are out of tune with the scientific world. As a matter of fact, some of the most important scientific discoveries were made by Christians. By the way, clue me in on great scientific discoveries made by atheists.
I'm waiting.

What exactly do you mean? I'm Christian, and I realize that a lot of Christians like to argue evolution and stuff like that just because it's a popular thing to discuss. Like- "I'm a Christian and people are gonna try to disprove God with evolution so let's fight it"! When in reality there are a LOT more important things to discuss about our faith...
Did you mean evolution?
