I have three choices for my religious beliefs
1. I can be a total Theist -- meaning that god not only made all of this, but keeps watch as well. And the bible tells me that the god of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all of fiction --jealous and proud of it, petty, unjust, bloodthirsty, racist, sends disease, and is infanticidal, and an unforgiving control freak.
2. I can be a Diest -- meaning that god made all this, then let it go, and let it be on its own....(In which case, why pray?)
3.. I can be a Pantheist -- meaning that god is everything and everywhere, as well as a set of physical laws that govern the universe, as well as energy.... This would mean that I am praying to the laws of gravity, (Physical laws) and a lump of coal (energy) not very satisfying,
4. I can be an Atheist--- and that gods are a delusion.... and that if one person believes in a delusion, we call him nuts. If many do, we call it religion.
So, what or who is god, and why?

Except that for #1 not all beliefs in all gods is equal, i.e. the christian god will send you to hell if you believe in one of the others, Thor would probably hate you if you didn't come to him covered in the blood of your enemies etc. etc.
Where do the agnostics fit in your scheme, both weak and strong?
and how about extending #3, what if everything including you are part of god?
anyway, I subscribe to #4 so I have no business in telling you why you should believe in (a) god.

If you say that the Old Testiment tells you that God is the most unpleasant character, jealous, proud of it, petty, unjust, bloodthirsty, racist, sends disease, and is infanticidal and an unforgiving control freak, then guess what!!
You have no idea whatsoever what the Bible says. You are Biblically illiterate as a grapefruit. Let me make this easy for you little honey: You obviously don't want any part of God, that is if you had the ballsies to tell one tiny bit of the truth.
So this is the deal:
Why should you believe in God? You don't need to.
We are here because God wants to determine who will and who will not be living in the eternity - the next earth age. We do not want a repeat of this nonsense, and I assure you we will not have a repeat of it. God wants you to have the choice, and even though you give your cute little list there, you seem to have already made your choice, and thats good, thats the way its supposed to be. Unfortunately, you've made a choice against someone you don't even know. but thats okay, too.
have at it. What do you need that mean old bad God for anyway?
Its not like your life depends on it, right? Uh - well, uh- hmmmm.
When this age is over, and Christ returns, you're even gonna have a few more things to list against Him, cause He ain't coming back this time to be crucified; nope - this time He comes back with an iron rod for correction.
I'm Christian, and have no intention of begging and pleading anyone to save their own sorry asses - you sail your own ship;
If you want it to sink, hey - have a good one.
One down......

To answer that question for you would still not satisfy. I know you are disillusioned by the God of the Old Testament, but remember, he put man in an absolute paradise. Man chose to go Satan's way, and reject God. Thats what caused all the anger. But, the good news is, if you accept God's Son Jesus and His payment for your sins, God will see you as the pre-rebel person before the fall of Adam and Eve. All you have to do is agree with God. Admit your condition(sinner), tell God you believe Jesus paid the price for your sin, and ask Jesus to save you based on that fact. Your troubles won't all disappear, but you will have a deep down lasting joy that will never fade away. I promise. And, you get to go to heaven. How cool is that!

You should read this book called Embraced By The Light by Betty Eadie. She had a near-death experience and she thought God was very mean and scary because of his descriptions in the Old Testament. She found out she was totally wrong. She explains in the book why he killed so many people back then and why he allows bad things to happen to good people. God is really Love itself and everything he does or allows is always for our good. I know it seems horrible to us that people die in such bad ways but we live on after death and eventually all go back to God if we accept his son Jesus and there is no more death or pain ever again.

Hmmm, tough one. Try scientist as a fifth option. I don't mean the high priests of tech, who tend to be as dogmatic about what they believe in as the religious nuts are, but instead a perpetual questioner. Read, experiment and experience, everything from quantum physics to hindu philosophy and back through astrology. Works for me. I can wake up an atheist, have lunch a buddhist, and go to sleep a wiccan. Variety is the spice of life.

God is our heavenly Father, He always was and always will be. He created the heavens and earth. He created Adam and Eve, who were the first humans, The were others that God created, because He wanted a variety of colors in His world.Over the years, from above He watched all His people multiply. We cannot see God, because He is like the wind, we cannot see that either, but we know it is there.

Behold all that is around you on earth: things, plants, insects, animals, birds and fish...
Don't you see that they have accurate systems governing and guiding their life?
Behold all that is above you in space: sun, moon, planets, stars, clouds, wind ... etc., aren't they all functioning properly and accurately and rendering valuable services to our life on earth?
Think of yourself, of your organs, of your numerous and efficient body systems, how they are cooperatively functioning to secure healthful life for you!
Who created all these fantastic things? Who established their accurate systems? Who is controlling this huge and complicated universe?
No one dared so far to claim creating, or being able to create, any single thing, even a hair!!
The Creator and The Sustainer of all these Creatures is One only; if there were more than one there would have been confusion in the heavens and the earth! That One is Allah (the only true God).
It is very logical, then, to acknowledge this fact, to know our Creator and Provider to be grateful to Him, and to submit ourselves and our life to His Wise and Merciful Guidance.
Our Creator has endowed us with intellect to understand and with freedom to choose the right path.
Allah has showed us the right path through his messengers sealed by Mohammad and His Books completed by The Qur'an.
In front of us there are two ways: one is leading to bliss in this life and in the Hereafter that is Islam.
The other is leading to misery and loss in this world, and to eternal punishment in the Hereafter. The choice is ours, what are we going to choose? May Allah guide us into the Right Path! Aameen!

If anyone knew that answer, no one would be here. Why you believe in anything is a personal choice. Don't look to others to make up your mind, educate yourself and make up your own mind. Learn to think for yourself and then ask for opinions later.
