Is it a sin to be Buddhist? It seems to me that it must be. I mean, unless he accepts Jesus, a Buddhist is surely bound for hell, right? This makes no sense at all to me. Would God allow a pious, prayerful Buddhist to suffer the same eternity in hell for being Buddhist as the unrepentant child molester and serial killer? They both suffer the same eternity in hell?

Please don't tell me that not all Christians believe this. I know that. I am addressing this question to those Christians here who DO believe this, that hell is a real place, a lake of fire where bad human beings burn forever and that prayerful, highly moral Buddhists will go there when they die simply because they were Buddhists.

Considering that there are a lot of Buddhist concepts in the bible relating to Christ and his teaching I would think not.

Interestingly the bible covers Jesus birth and his adult life but nothing for the 30 odd years before his baptism.

Some Scholars beklieve that Christ actually went to India and the Kashmir and actually studied Buddhism prior to starting his ministry, they have found a lot of documents to support this, there are alot of parralels in the bible and Discovery channel actually had a documentary about it.

The Dalai LLamma was asked about Jesus and he replied that he was almost like the Buddha which you take anyway you like.

I accept that even though most die hard Xtrians would not accept this however it is an interesting premise.

I hear where you are coming from and I have always felt a loving God is able to see what is truly in your heart and how you lived your life is how you will be judged not from what you read out of a book.

Good Question!

If it were all true, than yes, a prayerful Buddhist would suffer the same fate as an unrepentant child molester and serial killer... Key word: If

Your question is very contradictory from my point of view. If Christian believe one thing and buddists believe another, whos to say the christians are right. One of the reasons why its better (for me) to be an ateist; you dont need an explanation for everything and you dont need to go into conflict for you religious bleiefs, unless your trying to convert people to ateism but i'm not for that

I was raised catholic. In the third grade when they told me that all of the hypocrites I went to church with were going to heaven and all the good people who did not believe in my version of the religious popular fantasy were going to hell, I knew that either God was an idiot or they were telling me lies about God.

After careful deliberation I concluded that God was probably not an idiot.

You must not confuse what people believe with what is right.
If you lead a wholesome life as befitting a realised human being then follow your bliss and live life to the full.

God said the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus.
In other words we are all going to hell without Jesus Christ. Why? Well think of us like plants cut off from our roots. Root being life and God. Cut off because of our sin. The only way to get "glued" back to our root is through Jesus Christ.

Buddhists have morals and I believe its their good intentions on Earth that will get them into heaven as well as Jews and Hindus. There is my eye a possibility of pergatory where they will learn the true nature of the Universe and bare witness to "His Name"

God will judge them in a just way. We don't know for certain what will happen to people who haven't had the opportunity to know Jesus, but it is better to know Him and be assured to go to heaven!
