Why should you have to organise all the legal paperwork before sex? Is it necessary to have a state-sanctioned union before you are allowed to experiment with your bodies? Aren't these things just natural?

This isn't a baited question, I heard someone say something interesting about how they thought about religion and marriage, I thought I'd ask people about it. And it's not really directed at Christians, but any religions who decide to choose this path

Im always so stressed out because the rapture could happen at any moment that its practically impossible for me to read the bible because I have this feeling of being rushed all the time. I've never been able to read through the whole bible before and I envy the people that have done that and the people that have a strong relationship with Jesus because I dont have that yet and when the rapture happens they will have HAD that. BY THE WAY IF YOU'RE WONDERING IM 17 YRS OLD.

In the religion of Islam, the mainstream view is that the Quran cant be translated. Many Muslims believe its wrong to even try.

Think about this for a minute. There are 1.6 billion Muslims, the vast majority of which dont know Arabic. Therefore, straight away you can deduce that the majority of Muslims havent even investigated the validity of their faith because that would require learning arabic and reading the original Quran.

Is it true that Arabic cant be translated? First of all, when it comes to anything written fourteen hundreds years ago, in any language, you can do nothing else but translate. The original Quranic Arabic is not spoken today, thus an Arab is really no better equiped to knowing the certain meaning than anyone else.

So, no one on earth can be one hundred percent sure what is the "true meaning". In fact, when you read a "translated" Quran from a credible scholar, you are more likely to get the meaning than by trying to read the original as a non-scholar.

Obviously this shows Islam in its true colours. the speakers at the green lane mosque advocated:
Death to jews and christians who would not subjugate to Islam
Crucifixion and amputation for 'crimes' under Islamic Law
The total subjugation of women as inferior second-class citizens
That it was the duty of all muslims to rise up in violent jihad in order to establish a muslim state in the countries they lived in.
Surely it would be incumbent of all 'reasonable' muslims to dissociate themselves from this pernicious crap and indeed fight a counter 'jihad' against it. These facts would alienate even tolerant liberal 'friends of islam'. It would not surprise me if there was a massive backlash from the less disciplined and structured members of this society. If mosques are destroyed and muslims murdered in our streets..the people we saw on CH4 tonight would share at least an equal part in the blame..you have been warned!

I just read an article on tattoos posted on the Jehovah's Witness website watchtower.org. I have tattoos, my arms being the most visible of all of my work. As I read the article, I was surprised to see that the tone of th article isn't so much that tattoos are bad, they are just bad to Jehovah's Witnesses. A few claims are validated with some form of citation (i.e., it's common reference to Teen Magazine), but most, like the last comment, are not cited with any verifiable source: "In time, many regret getting a tattoo."

Now the questions:

1. Is there any shred of truth to this OUTSIDE of the apparently judgmental sect of Jehovah's Witnesses?

2. Other than controlling people, what good does demonizing tattoos or other forms of body modification lead to?

Can you name one commonly accepted scientific principle other than evolution that you feel is a "faith, not facts" issue?

I'm just wondering because Fish has said several times today that science is a matter of faith and that he'll keep his faith and we can keep ours. I'm curious to understand what we're talking about.

Is gravity a faith thing? How about the earth being round, not flat? Or heliocentricity? What about thermodynamics? Ohm's law? Kirchhoff's principles? If you don't believe in those things, should you still be accepted by the scientific community? Can you get a job designing airplanes if you think gravity is a matter of faith?

I'm all confused.

It seems to me that only the people who don't want evolution to be true call science "a faith thing" simply because they want to discredit it?

Isn't that going against their belief? Isn't that..like..hypocritical?

And for that matter, do Catholic colleges/universities have science majors?

Do they just pretend they believe in FACT (real science--evolution, etc.)?

If you worked hard to get a Phd (especially 40 years ago, it wasn't as easy as today- especially for a black man), wouldn't you find it a tad more than insulting that people don't recognize your efforts that you worked so hard for and put so much effort in to obtain?

It is HUGELY disrespectfull to not simply give the man the credit he deserves for his efforts and refer to him as "Doctor" or "Dr." as is the proper way to refer to someone with a Phd.

Otherwise you are bieng disrespectfull. I'm sure if Dr. King were alive today, and heard you not refer to him as Dr. he would be insulted.

Please take this into account next time you talk about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A while back there was a question as to whether or not the nails pierced Jesus' hands or wrists, whether his feet were resting on a block of if they were nailed directly to the cross and adjustments have been made. Why has nobody addressed Jesus' light brown hair and pale skin even in these modern times when racism is considered by many to be dead?

I understand that Jesus' skin colour isn't really addressed in the Bible but we can be certain he wasn't pale skinned. Don't you think they should at least give him a healthy tan? Or would a non-white Jesus seem a little less pure?
