A while back there was a question as to whether or not the nails pierced Jesus' hands or wrists, whether his feet were resting on a block of if they were nailed directly to the cross and adjustments have been made. Why has nobody addressed Jesus' light brown hair and pale skin even in these modern times when racism is considered by many to be dead?

I understand that Jesus' skin colour isn't really addressed in the Bible but we can be certain he wasn't pale skinned. Don't you think they should at least give him a healthy tan? Or would a non-white Jesus seem a little less pure?

There is an interesting piece about this at Wikipedia, and probably many other places....but for centuries, people made him out to look like themselves, Europeans made him white, Africans made him black, etc.

Basically, its now agreed that his appearance was that of a modern-day "Middle Eastern" man.

Definitely not white ("because he was Jewish"...give me a break)

Secular, forensic historian did a reconstruction of what he possibly actually looked like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_of_Jesus

Purity is of heart. It is not determined by skin color. The color of Jesus' skin was not addressed in the Bible because it's irrelevant. Why in the world would that even be considered an important topic of conversation unless it's to distract people from what is really important....that being the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins? The nails don't matter, the way the nails were nailed doesn't matter, where they were located doesn't matter, the color of Jesus' skin DOESN'T MATTER. What matters is that Jesus Christ died for our sins. We can choose to accept that gift & live or reject it & die. If we get our focus off of that reality & onto these other trivial arguments we have allowed Satan to deceive us through our own stupidity & through our own human desire to argue just for the sake of arguing.

It's not Christians that insis on a "White Jesus" it's the media. That's what people are used to seeing, so that's what they're gonna give them.

Christians don't care what race He was, while on the earth, all that matters is what He did.

His appearance IS addressed in the Bible, however.

He came from a region that was a little darker skinned. Middle eastern people aren't white, but they aren't that dark either. Sometimes I think it's easier for people to think that he was exactly the same as them, even though we are all different and it really doesn't matter what color our skin is. Course since we don't know for sure what he looked like, who can say? I guess the question will always be open to debate.

Well Jesus was Hebrew.
So I am sure his skin was a very tan color.
I believe that his hands were nailed to the cross, I do not know about his feet though.

I figure He looked like most Middle-Eastern men we see today- darker complected, dark hair, brown or maybe hazel (but NOT blue) eyes....

Considering that He spent most of the last 3 years of his life outdoors, He probably was pretty tanned, as well.

I heard that a Roman soldier wrote a description of Him... Dunno how authentic it is, but it described Jesus as a tall, strong man, ruddy complexion, reddish beard, brown hair...

As a Christian, I suspect that now, His mortal complexion, hair and eye color don't really matter- His appearance is now much more glorious than it was when He walked the Earth... I seem to remember something in the account of His trip to the Mount of Transfiguration...

THEY INSIST ON A WHITE JESUS BECAUSE THEY SHONUFF JACKED UP!

Jesus is for everybody, no matter what color Jesus was, and no matter WHAT color Jesus was, black Africans were some of the very first converts to Christianity (read about the Ethiopian converted in the book of Acts.)

You need to read this book (The Bible or the Axe: One Man's Dramatic Escape From Persecution in the Sudan.)

You know what else you need to do Shonuff? You need to tune into Enduring Truth radio show hosted by Pastor Paul Shepard. He's funny, and black, and Christian. Like 2 out of 3 of what you are. Why do you insist that all Christians are black-hating bigots?

Some Children See Him
By Alfred Burt

Some children see Him lily white
the infant Jesus born this night
Some children see Him lily white
with tresses soft and fair

Some children see Him bronzed and brown
the Lord of heav'n to earth come down
Some children see Him bronzed and brown
with dark and heavy hair (with dark and heavy hair!)

Some children see Him almond-eyed
This Saviour whom we kneel beside
Some children see Him almond-eyed
With skin of yellow hue!

Some children see Him dark as they
Sweet Mary's Son to whom we pray
Some children see Him dark as they
And, ah! they love Him so!

The children in each different place
Will see the Baby Jesus' face
Like theirs but bright with heav'nly grace
And filled with holy light!

O lay aside each earthly thing
and with thy heart as offering
Come worship now the infant King
'tis love that's born tonight!

'tis love that's born tonight!

If you ask a Christian, they'll insist on a white Jesus even though he was from a predominantly Asian/African area. Mary was white, John was white, everyone on the entire planet was white according to them, and yet they can't explain why people evolved (did I just use the "E" word in a religion-based answer?) into different races.

Playing the odds, jesus being jewish, was probably white. But yes he did travel in a pretty hot and sunny area of the globe, so he probably had a good tan going, if not a burn as there was no sunscreen.

I hope God comes back as a black lesbian just so we can finally realize that everyone is equal.

Who knows. Probably the same reason the it took the popes 300 years to admit that the earth really isnt the center of the universe. Christianity is a great story, just like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny (which are pagan by the way, seem to always see that come up)
