Those that choose to kill others in cold blood shouldn't be considered as a correct follower of any religion, because there isn't one that I can think of that encourages it. (That means that NO, Islam doesn't encourage it's followers to kill others.) The "Muslim" extremists just twist the words in the Quran to mean something that they don't. (These extremists are in the minority too BTW) There are numerous examples in centuries past where people have commited acts of violence against others in the name of God and the Bible as well. To the answerer that quoted the Quran to prove his point I say this: there are many scriptures and quotes from many religious works that, if taken out of context as you did in your answer, sound bad. That includes the Bible too. My overall point is that anyone that chooses to act violently or hateful towards others isn't a loyal follower to any religion. I highly doubt that God, Allah, or any other higher power a person chooses to believe in would encourage hate, intolerance, and bigotry.

For the same reasons christians were so agressive long ago, and went off killing muslims and anyone else who was not a believer. Inquisition and the crusades. Christians killed in the name of Jesus, if you would not convert and believe then you were removed. Jews in Italy actually his there roots and their names and pretended to convert.

When did we do that?? Well, if they did so, they should not be called Muslims, if they really knew Islam and acted upon it they would've know that killing innocent lives is exceeding God's limits!
and if you haven't noticed...when EXTREMISTS commit acts of terror they are usually provoked..
So please do no generalize..
To Superwhathisface: stop CHOOSING verses from the Quran and exploiting them! For you to choose verses you have to understand why were they mentioned to Mohammed and the interpretation of each verse..obviously you are very ignorant of each word that you copied and pasted.

Do know that contemporary Muslim thinkers and scholars have unanimously expressed their regrets and authoritatively condemned the riots and protests which were unislamic to begin with, and which were immensely overboard, for God said in the holy Quran not to transgress the limits which He has set out for Muslims. As far as my teenaged mind can remember, there is a Quranic verse reminding and admonishing Muslims not to be unjust to others because of our hatred towards other people. The killing of a nun recently as a retaliation of His Holiness Pope Benedict's uncalled for statement in Regensburg was for instance, unanimously condemned as unislamic by Muslim clerics and thinkers of the highest emminence, and such incident was tremendously regrettable, and I myself as a Muslim was disguested at these kinds of unislamic actions.
Allah (God) says in the holy Quran:
"O ye who believe! Stand out firmly For Allah, as witnesses To fair dealing, and let not The hatred of others To you make you swerve To wrong and depart from Justice. Be just: that is Next to Piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted With all that ye do." (The Holy Quran 5:8)
"Allah commands justice, the doing Of good, and liberality to kith And kin, and He forbids All shameful deeds, and injustice And rebellion: He instructs you, That ye may receive admonition." (The Holy Quran, 16:90)
"...Help ye one another In righteousness and piety, But help ye not one another In sin and rancour: Fear Allah: for Allah Is strict in punishment." (The Holy Quran, 5:2)
"Allah forbids you not, With regard to those who Fight you not for (your) Faith Nor drive you out Of your homes, From dealing kindly and justly With them: For Allah loveth Those who are just. (The Holy Quran, 60:8)
"In an unprecedented move, an Open Letter signed by 38 leading Muslim religious scholars and leaders around the world [was] sent to Pope Benedict XVI..."
