I was reflecting on the age of the earth recently and whether one believes it is 4.5 Billion years old or 8,500 years old, it struck me as odd that God waited such a long time to declare himself or herself to humanity. Taking the worst case and assuming that God created the world 8500 years ago, then why did God wait a minimum of 6300 years to reveal himself to us? The God of Abraham is nowhere to be found in the writings of civilizations from before that time.

Christianity is more recent still. If Jesus really was the Son of God and lived and died when the New Testament says he did, then Christianity is only 2000 years old. If Christians want us to believe theirs is the only and true faith then who the heck are Baal, Zeus, and Thor? All of them preceded Jesus Christ and Abraham’s God.

It seems that the theist strategy is to attempt to discredit any philosophy or bit of knowledge that doesn't mesh with their own personal world view. Why not use that time constructively and build a case and collect real evidence that supports your claims? It's not an either/or thing you're dealing with. If there were a default answer for these things that would be the case, but there isn't... and yours (god) is the worst possible candidate. In the thousands of years that man has used god as the answer for all things how much real evidence or repeatable tests has he provided to support that claim... absolutely NIL.

So why not stop trying to tear down things you don't agree with and start gathering the material needed to support your case? I have a good feeling if any of you were to pursue this challenge to any degree you would soon realize why there are now so many atheists.

I would, I mean if almost all conflicts worldwide werent Islamic like Chechnya, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Somolia, Sudan and Dafur genocide, Chad, Phillipines, Indonesia, Lebanon, Palastine, Iraq, Algeria, Southern India, Kashmir, etc.

AND IF

Muslims werent behind the greatest genocides in history, like:
Genocide and Islam: Chapter 4 - Islam and the Muslim Invasions “Let it be said right away: the massacres perpetuated by Muslims in India are unparalleled in history, bigger than the Holocaust of the Jews by the Nazis; or the massacre of the Armenians by the Turks” http://www.nalanda.nitc.ac.in/resources/english/etext-project/history/gautier/chapter4.html

AND IF

The Quran wasnt so full of hatred and intolerance like:

Quran 9:29 “fight (jihad) those who believe not in allah” http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/msa/quran/009.qmt.html

Then sure, I could have liked Islam when I was an insecure teenager who believed woman should be under control. I can see that...sure.

I work as an air traffic controller. One of my coworkers happens to be a really cute girl, and I'd love if I could get together with her. However, she has the bad habit of telling incoming aircraft to do a barrel roll. She only does it when I'm around, and no one else is close enough to hear her. I really like this girl but her behavior just flies in the face of protocol and safety. I have to bring this up with the senior controller, but if I do she'll know it was me who ratted her out. I can't confront her about it either or I'll never be able to go out with her.

Why is it necessary to have organized religion? When I look at the answers for many other religious questions on this forum, they usually have a statement saying that all Gods are the same, only with a different name. Yet, in our history, we can see that so many wars have and continue to be formed around organized religion. Granted most of the atrocities for Christianity and Judaism were in the older times, but still they were there. I wonder if humanity kept its spiritual belief in a higher power, yet dropped these individual sects and separations, could our world in fact become a better and safer place.

If he is omnipotent, then he has the capacity of shaping reality the way he wants to, thus denying the existence of a fixed future, therefore he cannot know the future, and is not omniscient. If he is omniscient, he knows what his actions are, and his future is already decided for himself too, by his power of omniscience. Therefore he has to follow a fixed path, and cannot do anything outside of it. Therefore he is not omnipotent.

If you do not believe in god! You do not believe in jesus christ as god! and therefore you choose death "simple". If you believe that there is a god and he is jesus christ! you choose life "simple". Either there is a god or there isn't! "absolute truth". What do you choose?

"GAAAWWWD NO...YOU BASTARD.....YOU ARE ASKING FOR GENOCIDE!"

Fair point....thats the most evil question I have ever asked.

Sorry...I retract...I believe we should continue to turn our head to the 51 Islamic countries who have completed their non-muslim ethnic cleansing (Jordan and Egypt still has a little mop up duty left)

Hopefully, if we continue to let them finish Jihad cleansing in their countries, and allow their numbers to grow unabated in our countries, we should have a global Islam in out lifetimes...and Allah will be very happy...despite the continued war that will exist based on sunni and shia sects.

There are so many different belief systems. I mean even Christianity itself has dozens of variations. All religions go on faith alone, so really you can't be sure of anything. To say you are right and everyone else is wrong is just plain ignorant, and frankly insulting to other religions. As for me, I don't claim to have all of the answers, I feel there are parts of every religion that are right. Truth be told you know how I know we haven't got it right, because if we had we'd be united not divided. Religion is only hurting us. in the Middle East innocent people are dying everyday because of religion. In the past millions have died because someone thought that their God was THE God. Can't we just finally realize that the answers aren't out there and focus on this life. It sickens me that there are still homeless in my city, while people live in million dollar homes. We obviously can't rely on a God for salvation, and it's about time we started helping ourselves. YOU ARE ALL WRONG!
