There are no rules in Buddhism! You won't be fine ,cane, stone to death,or even beheaded in Buddhism.
What we have are called precepts.Monks are suppose to observe 227 precepts.Precepts are moral instructions.
For lay Buddhists, most of them observe the five precepts.
1.To abstain from taking lives
2.To abstain from taking what is not given
3.To abstain from sexual misconduct
4.To abstain from harmful speech
5.To abstain from drugs and intoxicants that cause heedleesness of the mind.
The above precepts are for the protection of the person who observe it.Breaking any of the above precepts will bring bad consequences from other people. No Buddhist organisation/authorities can punish you;you punished yourself.

Practice meditation to remain calm, remember everything (even the rocks) have a living spirit, be kind to others and never cause anyone or anything harm. The whole jist is to stay peaceful and positive, I keep trying, but some days it is a struggle.
