It makes no sense at all. Why would god make a universe that requires BILLIONS of light years to travel if we the protagonists and reason for its existance? All we'd need is the solar system. I don't see why any intelligent designer would make extra useless stuff.

The 1st commandment says "I am a jealous God"

And what's up with these "other" Gods. Is God hiding something? If He's the only supremo, what's He got to be jealous of

And while we're at it, If God is jealous, is He greedy too? With the churches constantly asking for money, you'd think so, wouldn't you?

The first surviving reference to the Christmas celberation comes in 200 A.D., but the December 25th date was not fixed until 354 A.D., by Bishop Liberus of Rome. The date remains the standard in the Western tradition, although Christmas, or "The Feast of Nativity," is celebrated on January 6th by Armenian Orthodox Church and on the 7th by the Ethiopian, Russian, and Ukrainian Orthodox.

The Bible, of course, tells us neither the date nor time of year when Christ was born. But, as Alexander Hislop points out, it was unlikely to have been winter, for the shepherds were tending their flocks by night. "The cold of the night," writes Hislop, from December to February, is very piercing, and it was not the custom for the shepherds of Judea to watch their flocks in the open fields later than about the end of October."
So why did the Western Church chose December 25th? The decision may have been aimed at displacing pagan worship. Throughout history, many pagan celebrations have falle

a while back on a religious program the mother of murder victim claimed to be highly religious. She claimed to be strong in the absence of her beloved son. When asked how she felt about the circumstances, she said "god giveth and god taketh away" she went on to say that god chose to take her son to be with him. She then continued to talk and said " she blames the government and Tony Blair for not doing more to prevent her sons death.

My question is; how many other of you religious types believe that Tony Blair has the power over God and can stop god doing what 'He' wants?

I see all these Christian loonies trying to censor violent movies like friday the 13, but they are totally okay with their snuff film about Jesus and reading/teaching kids about a relgion that has incest/murder/rape/etc. by (or directed by) god himself.

So please, tell me exactly how is it any different for me to show friday 13 to my kids to having them go to church to learn about hell fire and watch some jew nailed on a stick?

Is this the pinnacle of pure hypocrisy?

Serious question. I believe Jesus loved us so much, He came down to earth, lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to take the punishment for OUR sins so we wouldn't have to and that we could be saved through Him.

But my question is: if He loved us so much, why is the BELIEF part so important? If He was willing to come and DIE for us, why would He then say 'I died to save you, but if you don't believe Me than I'm sorry but your gonna be punished FOREVER'?!

I don't know whether hell is 'eternal' or not but it seems to be the commonly-shared belief. I am a very loving person and couldn't imagine punishing someone forever, not even my worst enemy.

Jesus is surely even more loving than me, so why would He condemn someone forever just for the crime of not believing??!

It doesn't make sense to me. In theory you could have a really loving person who doesn't believe going to hell, and then someone like say Hitler repenting on his death bed and going to heaven.

do you think that it would effect anything for you, if you found out that all the major events in your life, to date, and for the future... had all been predestined, planned out and scheduled in a manner beyond your concious awareness.

this is assuming whatever evidence you were shown, was whatever it was that you would need in order to belive it and accept it as true.

this is a hypothetical, so even if your conciously entirely confident that it is not so,.... imagine that mabe, despite that, you WERE given enough evidence, in such a manner that you would belive it.

if you INSIST that nothing like that could ever be shown to you, what makes you so confident? what have you seen, experienced, or felt that makes you belive so?

and what if it was further explained that this planning was not done by some entirely outside force, but by a wiser, greater part of your own self, and your concious self simply does not remember doing so.

God has allegedly spoken to lots of people, considered sane/insane and good/evil respectively. For example, Joan of Arc, who went on to kill lots of people in a pretty secular based conflict. Moses through a burning bush (lets not split hairs, it’s a pretty out there way of communicating) and numerous others. He has commanded people to kill in his name LONG before Sutcliffe claimed it (the Bible gives too many examples to list, Judges is a good one though). And let’s not forget, God stuck down the first child of every family, guilty or not, as the final plague against Egypt – so morally dubious actions all over in the sense that people not directly guilty are being made to pay for crimes they are associated with.

So when someone like Sutcliffe goes out and kills mostly prostitutes (who lets face it, are pretty sinful) in the name of God, what basis is there for saying one case is authentic and the other is wrong. Or even more simply put, that one is right and the other is wrong?

Speaking in tongues is a bunch of bullocks, but let's pretend for a second it was true. Why would it make sense that Christians go around mumbling some strange giberish for god? I always thought it be the "evil satanists" that go around doing weird stuff like that and shaking in the floor like cheap epilepcy.
