The 1st commandment says "I am a jealous God"

And what's up with these "other" Gods. Is God hiding something? If He's the only supremo, what's He got to be jealous of

And while we're at it, If God is jealous, is He greedy too? With the churches constantly asking for money, you'd think so, wouldn't you?

people: of course I'd be jealous, but I'm only HUMAN, you know.

jealousy is a flaw - do you really want to ascribe that trait to your perfect God?

In the context the world jealous is used so men and women would understand. God is saying He should before all "things" and that He should be first. That is we should seek HIM before we turn to Oprah, or a counselor, or our friends. We should recognize the gifts He gave us (life, the ability to grow and make food, etc). Many people will scream and hoop and hollar after a celebrity, but do nothing for God. For some, the thought of praising God is foreign to them, but the thought of cheering at the high school football game is easy. God is saying "He wants to be first, He wants to have a relationship with us and we are important to Him."

If my kids listened to another adult over their Father I would be jealous but it's not an insecurity thing it's a concern that the other party does not have their best interests at heart. As for money...God has no need of money, people do and yes some are corrupt but that happens in general life too - not letting that stop me know the truth.

He's jealous as a husband is for his wife. If your wife whom you loved, were prostituting herself wouldn't you be jealous. This example is all through the Old Testament. As far as the money, it's a fact, churches handle charities better than the government ever could. Ignore the Televangelist, they are not representative of most churches.

A line I love from a song by Soul Coughing says "I know you Lord are a jealous Lord/I know the tablet is your competition", having made it clear earlier in the song that the tablet is a drug reference. Perhaps not so much jealous of other gods, but of other things that may take his place...

God's emotions stem from his righteousness, whereas man's emotions stem from his unrighteousness. Man is sinful, but there is no sin in God. These other gods that God speaks of are false gods, idols that people erect and worship. they are not only the pagan gods, but the modern gods of money and possessions. God wants our complete attention, not part of it. As far as money is concerned, God does not need your money---he owns all of it anyway. God wants you to be a giver---a responsible giver. The reality of this life is that it takes money to operate a church---lots of it. The primary purpose of a church is to win souls for Christ. If you desire to go to hell that is your business, but do not hinder others who want salvation. God is not greedy because he owns everything. Jesus loves you and if you would give him a chance to show you that he does he could work wonders in your life that are far beyond anything that you could ever dream of. If you shut him out, however, you will only invite Satan in and he will destroy you. You are not strong enough to stand on your own. God bless you.

He is jealous of anyone whom those he loves give their worship to instead of him.
You are made in his image. You would feel jealous if your wife gave her love to another man. If you were more good-looking, kinder, richer, and everything any woman could possibly want in a man, and the man she chose was ugly, abusive, smelly and you know that she deserves much better it would bother you even more.
Religious leaders are greedy. God is not. All of the gold and silver are his. (Haggai 2:8)

HOW would you feel if you had a child and the child CALLED another person Mom or Dad? We are HIS children and He has feelings also as we do as He created us in His image. It goes alot deeper, but I hope you understand what I am saying. Even if you DO NOT believe in God, you would be hurt if your child called someone else their parents.

From what I can see of statues of other masculine deities (particularly fertility gods), it stems from that most ancient of jealousies - envy of physical size and prowess. No wonder Jehovah doesn't want to be represented in form.

Perhaps he needs to call up smilin' Bob.

jealousy--knowing that no one could love your loved one as much as you do.

It's like the nice guy whose in love with a girl whose in love with a guy that beats on her or cheats on her.

This guy's in agony. "Why doesn't she love me? Why is she with that loser?"
