Yes absolutely....you are suppose to eat to live not live to eat....obesity in itself is not a sin, some people can't help that they are obese, some really have glandular problems.....gluttony is the sin.

Gluttony is considered one of the 7 deadly sins. I suppose obesity (If gluttony induced) is a sin therefore. But, there is medically induced obesity (medicines that slow down the metabolism and others of the like) and that wouldn't be a sin because you are trying to cure something else.

Gluttony is a sin because it makes life less enjoyable and less healthy. All of the things that are declared sins by Chrisitanity are sins because they either:
1- make life less enjoyable (yes, even lust and adultery to lead to misery later).
2- make life less healthy, and therefore, have you taking the gift of life for granted.

hope that helps!
Some people are obese from genetic reasons, or, as I said above, medical reasons and things like that really can't be helped so I don't think that would be considered a sin.

I know this is a bit off topic, but... Most of the people who make up that 2/3 statistic are only slightly overweight, with BMIs of around 25-27 -- in other words, the kind who 'could stand to lose ten pounds' or are a bit out of shape, but don't have rolls and double chins. Claims about Americans being gluttonous pigs are fairly exaggerated. However, the % of people who are obese is definitely rising all around the globe, I won't deny that. You know, genetics and medical conditions definitely factor in obesity, but to say that diet and exercise aren't also contributing is just plain ridiculous. The fact of the matter is, people are generally less active and eating more junk food now than they were 20+ years ago. The problem is probably a combination of genetics and lifestyle -- why does it always have to be one or the other? Crappy genetics + unhealthy lifestyle = unhealthy body. This isn't true of just fat people, either -- I'm at a perfectly healthy weight, at the slimmer end of the BMI spectrum, and I recently learned that my cholesterol is a bit high for someone my age. In addition, my mom, who is also on the slimmer side of the BMI spectrum, measured as having a high body fat percentage. Believe me, there's a lot more to health than BMI... how much you weigh is only one piece of the puzzle. As far as your question goes: The majority of Christians these days don't hold a completely literal view of the bible. Thankfully, most realize that it was written by men, but they have faith that it was inspired by god. For those reasons, they don't accept the idea that god would send you to hell just because you eat too much... he'd reserve that punishment for truly evil people. Plus, a lot of people are hypocrites. And I don't mean that only Christians or that all Christians are hypocrites -- I mean all kinds of people, regardless of religion. So none of that "rawr generalizing rawr" crap.

Gluttony is considered to be one of the 7 capital vices(also greed, lust, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride are the other 6). It means to over-do anything - drugs, drinking, food...

Obesity is NOT a sin - it is a medical condition (although it is often self-inflicted) but there are some that overeat that are not obese and are still wrong!

It is considered one of the 7 deadly sins. It isn't necessarily a moral sin, but it does tend to short life, hence it is deadly.
