I totally agree with the man, and have said it for years. All the strife in this world stems from Religion. Give it 400 years and Harry Potter will be the new God. It's a fairytale!!

this is regarding my last question, many claimed jesus is the son of god and not god himself. but the bible says:

Genesis 6:2
the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.

this distinguishes man from angels by calling angels sons of god, and man daughters of man. so if jesus isnt god, but the son of god then he is an angel, yet born of a woman would make him a nephilim, thus making him an abomination to god.

Genesis 6:4
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

(refer to the rest of genesis to see how god viewed the nephilim)

so if jesus wasnt god, then he was an abomination to god. and if he was god then he was skitsofrenic (or splitperson identity?) as he was always talking to himself and crying to himself.

My mother's side of the family has a tradition that when the kids are mature enough, they research different religions at length and then choose to follow whichever one they find they believe in. This has culminated in a Catholic, a Buddhist, and one person of mixed beliefs in my parent's generation, and a Wiccan, an Atheist, and a Protestant in mine. My question is, does anyone else do this, or do you think it's a good idea?

Please don't preach at me, it won't change my beliefs. I just want honest answers to my actual question. I happen to think it's a great idea, but I'd love to know other people's opinions.

What evidence could possibly be provided to convince you that you were wrong?

Atheists: What could you see that would make you believe God was real (not good or loving, but real)?

Theists: What could you learn or experience to make you doubt God's existence?

Serious Question -

If evidence and proof are not part of "having faith" then how do you know that your faith is on the right track? I understand that it might feel correct to you in a very deep way and I respect that. But what about other people who believe in "weird or dangerous stuff" that are also as sincerely faithful as you are?

Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his son. If someone did that today, with the best of faith based intentions, would anybody believe that they were really doing what God told them to do?

ANGELS AMONG US
I was walking home from school on a cold winter day,
Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way.

It was getting late, and I was scared and alone,
But, then a kind old man took my hand and led me home.

And Mama couldn't see him, oh but he was standing there,
And I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers.

Oh, I believe there are angels among us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours,
To show us how to live,
To teach us how to give,
To guide us with a light of love.
When life held troubled times, and had me down on my knees,
There's always been someone, to come along and comfort me.

A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand,
A phone call from a friend, just to say "I understand."

And ain't it kind of funny that at the dark end of the road,
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope.
Oh, I believe there are angels among us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours,
To show us how to live,
To teach us how to give,
To guide us with a light of love.
They wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places,
To grace us with their mercy, in our time of need.
Oh, I believe there are angels among us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours,
To show us how to live,
To teach us how to give,
To guide us with a light of love.

I've seen some churches that are built as though they are mansions, and they are right next to poor neighborhoods, where people basically live in shacks. I've seen others that are so huge that the ulities alone could feed a thousand small families. Am I missing something here?

Anyone seen the bit in Borat where he goes into the church and pretends to have a fit (I don't know the technical term but they do it at my mums church quite often)? Anyways, did you find it funny, in very poor taste, or both. Just asking opinions, try and give a reason why.
