Is that how atheists are formed

2006-12-07 04:57:58 · 25 answers · asked by Anonymous

I remember learning that there are several, if not many, variations on Buddhism. And at least one of them is considered Atheist in that it doesn't promote the idea of worship, but rather focuses on humanism, meditation, harmony and oneness with the spiritual self. If this is true, can anyone help me identify this version? Thanks! :)

First things first, I'm a straight married man. Now, I understand the arguement that Christians have against gay marriage. A man shall not lie next to a man, and all that Bible talk. That's fine. But if you use this arguement to fight gay marriage, shouldn't you fight equally hard against atheist marriages performed by judges? The whole arguement against gay marriage is based on religion, so why should anti-religous straight people get a free ride? For me, I can't take these anti-gay people seriously when they can't even have a consistant set of values themselves. If they were consistent by opposing athiest marriage as well at least I would respect their opinion, but as it stands now, the logic just isn't there.

Hi, I was wondering if people could each list 3 or more similarities between Muslim and Christian religions, then least an equal amount of differences. I'm Agnostic and pretty ignorant on both, though I know a little more about Christian faiths because of being American. They both strike me as pretty similar religions in that they both seem to believe in one true God, Heaven, Hell and one particular prophet above all others. Correct me if I'm wrong on those, I'm very ignorant about Muslim religions. I know there are a lot of different Muslim and Christian religions too, so listing a particular one such as Catholic or Shiite as an example is fine. I simply want to learn more about both, and this seems like a good starting point for future research. Thank you!

My husband and I cannot get along. I have tried so hard. He doesn't believe in God and he hates that I go to church and that I am a Christian. It's not like I preach to him. I respect his beliefs and I think he should do the same for me. He used to hit me but he stopped doing that because he was put in jail for it. But he is all the time calling me names and saying I am worthless. I don't know how that is though because I work and clean and cook. He doesnt do anything. He works maybe 16 hours a week making minimum wage. He doesnt lift a finger for the house and he refuses to take care of our daughter. She is almost 2. When I am working and he is supposed to be watching her, he doesnt feed her and doesnt change her diaper. He is lazy. Why would God want me to stay in this marriage? I heard that God hates marriage. But I have prayed and done everything and nothing works. So what should I do then? I want us to be together but he doesnt try. How can I help him to grow up? Pray for us......

THE LIE
by Janet O'Neill

A child is born, his father beams
Another chance to live his dreams.
A new life now to guide and mold,
He'll tell the child what he's been told.
An intellect to quickly seize.
Embrace the faith while reason flees,
So much of life spent on your knees.
So much of life spent on your knees.

* * *

Baptize the innocent with tricks
Of sacrifice and crucifix.
Whispered prayers and chanted psalm
Deliver fear and guilt with calm.
Behind nonsense of ritual
Words tempt of heaven, threaten hell.
Reality is hard to sell.
Reality's so hard to sell.

* * *

Truth is harder still to find.
To keep the faith you close the mind!
And faith, not intellect, is chief
When minds are frozen in belief.
Smear the ashes on the brow
Starve, but feed the sacred cow.
Torah, Koran, bible scribes
Recite the dusty diatribes.
Recite, recite the diatribes.

* * *

Quote endless scripture, Pray the beads,
Worship countless deities.
Proclaiming love dispense the hate,
Banish - excommunicate!
Scorn the man whom reason rules,
Congregate with holy fools.
Celebrate all martyrdom.
Capture minds while they're still young.
Be sure to get them when they're young.

* * *

Cathedrals vaulted ceilings high
Regally dress up the lie.
Burn the incense, sing and sway
Superstition saves the day!
Ring the bells and genuflect
Dance with snakes around your neck.
Wail at the wall, bow to the east
Ignorance is a senseless beast.
Shout fire and brimstone, heaven and hell,
But fear the individual.
Fear most the individual.

Now this is to the non spirit filled to the pentecostal-charismatic who has worshipped at the shrine of user friendly services. Why do you fight against the free, liberating, move of God's Holy Spirit?
I mean, no where in scripture does God say I will cease using the gifts of the Spirit. Besides wouldn't that make a fair and just God and "indian giver"? Also, if he was perfect why would he give them at a state of perfection then take them away? Seems if he took em away that would mean he had to change? Also, all through the Bible we see God demonstrating His power and presence through supernatural manifestations! Either through healing, miracles, prophecy, utterance in tongues. Places where God is freely allowed to move have more revival, more life, more people set free from evil habits (drugs, alcohol, perversions ) instead of copping out that God changed and miracles ceased (which aint in the bible) maybe "the Faith" for miracles ceased and people got more religious than real!

I mean, seriously, they don't leave him alone for a second do they?

You'd think they'd try and attempt to do SOME things on their own - but no, it's just pray, pray, pray all day long

Poor bloke.

That's probably why he doesn't answer - bit like me with telemarketers. Never make the mistake of showing interest, they'll never leave you alone ever again.
