Some regular guy behind a fancy looking curtain.

No, no, you've got it all wrong.
There is no such thing as god.
The man behind the curtain is any one of thousands of fanatical religious leaders -- pulling levers and pushing buttons to make it *appear* that there is an all-powerful god, appearing in bursts of flame and spouting commandments and threats.

As in the movie, there's a lesson here...if you want to remain ignorant and duped, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

:)

Actually, I believe it is quite possible in a way. There are two different theorys here that I can think of. Firstly, that religion was started as a form of control, secondly, that the bible is not completely wrong, but was not percieved correctly, or rather we do not percieve it correctly. As off the wall as this will sound to many people, religion could be kind of like the movie Stargate. In the bible, when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of Knowledge, God said behold, they have become like us. Who was he talking to ? Elijah saw chariots of fire in the sky. Could this not have been his perception of a spaceship? Jesus said " I am not of this world". The book of revelations says that the New Jerusalem will come down out of the sky. Could this not have been Johns perception of a spaceship. Why are Angels pictured with wings? Could it be because they came down and left in spaceships of some sort, and they were thought to have wings to be able to fly? My only regret is that to my knowledge, there is no more proof to this than there is to the Bible as most see it.

For one, God is NOT like the wizard of Oz.

If God was, what have we Christians lost really?

I would rather go through this life knowing God is with me, then pass from this life and find that path that ends up in the lake of fire. Wouldn't you?

They continue to try and keep science from looking behind the curtain so in a way I think they believe that (not all of them but some of the radicals do anyway).

I think it'd be more to the point that there wasn't even a guy in the booth when I went to go check. Just smoke and mirrors.

That guy must have some pretty interesting powers then. Pulling that whole rising from the dead thing out of his hat. Now that right dere is something I'd paid to see.

Believe it or not, Christians aren't as dumb as you take them for. Please take your ignorance elsewhere.
