The bible does not give good nutrition advice. It is scientifically proven that fasting is NOT healthy for you.
If you don't eat, your body will begin to use your muscles for fuel. Your body goes into starvation mode and it begins to store calories. Then when you do eat, you will have a) less muscle to help burn more calories, and b) a slower metabolism that is storing rather than burning. Fasting will make you FATTER when you do eat.
prey all you want, it won't do anything.if you don't make a legitimate effort to lose weight, prayer is not an effective form of weight loss.
proper eating habits and nutrition supplemented by excercise is the only way.
Don't go for any canned diet books. they don't explain nutrition properly they slant it to sell "thier" miracle formula of the month.
Try nutrition books instead, then you can look at diet books if you want to and judge for yourself how accurate they are once you are equipped with knowledge of hows whys and what your body is doing when it is absorbing certain types of foods and nutrients.
Start with Eat Drink and be Healthy, the harvard medical school guide to healthy eating (it is a nutrition book, not a diet book). Any other book that focuses on nutrition works well too.
Then supplement it with a workout designed to tone as opposed to build muscle. you do want to build toned muscle as the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. HOWEVER as you are only able to excercise limited time in the day, and it is far easier to consume calories than it is to burn them what you eat is a vast majority of the game. Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym.
Look at circuit training and then supplement it with some high intensity interval training for cardio. Lifting creates an afterburn where your body still burns calories from it even after you are done, cardio only burns while you are doing it. BOTH are important.
BTW- I am not christian, I came to the religion section to give people a hard time, but since you are asking a question where misinformation and doing the wrong thing can have extremely dangerous health consequenses for you I'm giving you help and an honest answer.

Losing weight is NOT the purpose of fasting! Fasting is a part of prayer, a part that makes one conscious of our physical distractions, our mortality and our dependence on God. If weight loss and "looking good" is the goal, fasting is an act of vanity, not righteousness.
I suggest you try losing weight by going out and volunteering, helping other people out through honest physical labor. If your body is a temple, God will not be impressed by the ornamentation but by the sincerity of the worship and the goodness of the worshippers.

I am not exactly sure what the bible way is...but eating from the earth is the most natural and most peaceful way to eat. Eating fruits and vegetables is the natural way to cleanse the body, keep the body free of unwanted pounds, fat, disease, etc. Try to cut down on alot of meat eating, especially cut down on red meat. Eat dairy, fats, sweets in moderation. You also need to keep active, move your body, sweat, and you should see results.
