If Jesus tells you to follow him, he wants you to follow his teachings. His teachings are what (in theory) became Christianity. If he wanted you to be Jewish, he would tell you to stay put.

The really wonderful thing about Jesus and his teachings was that he emphasized that ALL people may follow him REGARDLESS of his religion. Judaism at the time basically said this: "Jews are the only ones who will reach salvation, and everyone else is a gentile who is inferior and doomed." Jesus, however, had the revolutionary concept that ALL people are welcome to follow him and attain salvation.

Most of the early Christians were also Jewish.

They took up their cross and followed Jesus.

Jesus came to save mankind, starting with the Jews.

no you don't have to be a Jew to follow Jesus. originally Jesus came to save the Jews, however they would not receive him for who he is. The king of kings. They wanted some one to free them from Roman rule. Which Jesus did not come to do. He came to save people from there sin. so because the Jews refused him he took all peoples unto himself. Or at least those who will come to him. your cross is your troubles of every day life. Yes he wants you and all to follow him however he knows we all will not. he gave us free will to do as we please and he will not interfere with our will. Only catch is you pay for what you do in this life and the next. Following Jesus does not mean you will have a trouble free life. However, you do have some one to go to who can do some thing lasting about your troubles. So it's up to who ever will come. We decide our own eternal resting place

Our generation is the first since the dispersion of the Jewish People in which the Jew is able (and therefore obligated) to reach out to the non-Jew. The purpose is to create a movement among righteous gentiles worldwide, a forsaking of false religions and an acceptance of the seven Noahide commandments.

The Noahide commandments are those that God gave to Adam and his descendants and, after the flood, to Noah and his descendants. They are binding upon all of humanity, and were included in the Torah when God gave it to the People of Israel at Mount Sinai. The Torah testifies that these commandments were indeed those God gave man from the outset of creation, and is therefore the ultimate source of their authority.

The Torah further obligates Jews to teach and encourage all the nations of the earth to accept these commandments. A non-Jew who accepts the seven Noahide commandments recognizes that the ultimate purpose of his life is to serve God and establish peace on earth.

A Christian. Jews don't believe Jesus was the son of God.

I don't personally know Jesus or anything, but it seems to me that He wasn't too concerned with labels. He probably didn't really think of himself as a Jew or a Christian- just a dude named Jesus who wanted to show the world another point of view. So when He said, "Pick up your cross and follow me," He probably just meant, "Come hang out with me and let me teach you my philosophy on life and loving one another."

I am a Catholic. I don't believe that you have to be a certain religion to follow Jesus. Well, you at least have to believe in Jesus and His teachings. But to live "like" Christ, you can do it anytime, anywhere and in whatever religion you are in. I think that's all He wants of us, to try our best to live as good and God-fearing children. Just do the basic teaching of "Love God with all your might, with all your heart and with all your soul" and do same to your neighbor.

Gentiles do not have to convert to Judaism in order to be saved. All we have to do is believe.

When Jesus told us to pick up our own crosses, He means we must be completely obedient to His commandments, "crucifying" our own fleshly desires; and we must share in His humiliation, since He tells us the world will hate us just as it hated Him.

Peace.
