The standard answers from Christians as to why people don't believe the many outrageous stories in the bible such as people living for 9,000 years, creation of planets and stars in 7 days, and humans ressurecting from the dead is:

"They are afraid that if God is real they have to stop sinning"

What sins do Christians think that Athiests desire to commit so much that they will change their entire world view? I'm curious.

I'm curious to see if this is a real thing, how you spell it, what the history of it is.. also, she seems to put in specific amounts for certain things - it's all very odd - and I'm thinking, possibly made up! I'm told it has some roots from Judiasm, but I'd love to set the story straight.

"It is said that in Asia greasy Mohammedan saints march in procession entirely naked and that devout females crowd round them to kiss what is not worthy to be named."

Voltaire defies any one to prove that the Koran contains a passage that justifies this practice. Yet civilized Christians in Voltaire's day carried the holy foreskin in processions and paid sacred homage to it!"--Joseph Lewis, Voltaire – The Incomparable Infidel, Freethought Press Association, New York, 1929

Lets just say currently I didnt know which way to go...
I first look at the question is there a God?
Atheist claim there is no God, but they can't prove it.
So why should I believe this, rather than believing in a God?

So I wanted to know the truth being open minded I looked?
When I looked to history I see events that tooks place. Maybe World War 2, and say hey I believe it happend. Since so many people wrote about it, there is substancial evidence. Then there is gravity I can't see it, however I knew through test, that it still exists. Now the bible tells about a man named Jesus who rose again from the dead..So why should I believe that,, well because there were thousands of witnesses seeing him crucified, and he was seen by over a 100 people after he rose again. Why would 11 of the disciples be martyered if it was a fraud? Why else should I believe the bible, because it explains what happend in the very begining, God created the Earth.

Since thinking induces the notion of doubt which is ruled out by believing, does it mean that people who believe are unable to think about/question their faith?

In order for an animal to evolve new information must be added to each and every cell. Where did this new information come from? And by the way mutation is a loss of information not an increase in information.

This is the mathmatical proof of Holy Trinity. Now, u non-believers
refute it.

1.0=0----(i)
from (i) we gets, 1=0/0--(ii)
3.0=0---(iii)
from (iii) we gets,
3=0/0---(iv)
from equasion (ii) & (iv) we gets,
1=3--(v)
Thus, Holy Trinity is proofed. Quesa Errada Demostratum.

Okay, so this is probably a really mean and crappy question, but I decided to ask it anyways. If someone held a gun to your head and said choose me or you die- what would you choose? My point is- some people say that humans have free will and its their choice to turn away from God- but that's where the analogy comes into place. How can you really love and/or respect someone who says, "Hey, choose me or you are gonna die/go to hell, etc.?" That hardly seems nice to me. What type of God offers you a choice like that- "Worship me or suffer the consequences!" That doesn't seem like free will at all! It sounds more like blackmail or a threat. It just seems to me like free will is something to be punished, so why give it to humans in the first place? How do you feel about this? How do you see this whole concept of "free will" and the punishment for exercising such free will?

Scruitiny is a good thing. It can keep you from diving head first into false teaching. Don't you think a person owes it to theirself (at least) to study God's word in sincerity and truly seek after Him, to seek truth. Do you think that truth exists? Is something only true if you can see it?

I received two very close minded answers about christians reading other holy books.

(Granted there were also christians who had read about other belief systems. And good for them. Though maybe they should keep reading other books instead of just going back to the bible.)

Anyway, here are the two statements:

"When you search for an answer to something in "your" life,.and you find that answer,......why would you continue looking? Why would anyone "continue" looking for something they have already found?!
It is not intolerance to other religions, I simply do not need a second opinion."

"Why would I want to? The Holy Bible is all I need to find out how to go to heaven. I just love and know my own The Holy Bible. It really is the only holy book available to mankind. How about you? Have you ever read The Holy Bible? Try it, you'll be surprised and maybe even learn how to get to heaven. This is my prayer for you."

For the record yes, I have read the bible.

This is really difficult,I was baptised Anglican,I have never been too sure about what this implies.My beliefs are 100% Christian and this is the religion in which that I would like to be Baptised.My husband is of the Greek Orthodox Christian religion and he believes that Christianity is just like Jehova's Witnesses.I have never told him of my beliefs and that I would really like to start going to Church every Sunday with my son,I think he will get very mad,he is not a very understanding person.How can I go about this situation?

Christians, Jews and Muslims believe in god and yet they've been fighting and killing each other ever since.
Do you think that satan has something to do with it?
Is he causing the believers to kill each other?
Is he dividing us?
Is this his way of proving to god we weren't worthy afterall?
Will he win?
Will we allow him to win his war against god?

Please don't post stupid answers or make retarded remarks! If you don't believe in this stuff then move along because I really don't care to know whether you belive in this stuff or not. And don't plague me with your advice on how I shouldn't believe in this stuff.
Your wisdom is not needed unless it has something to do with my question.

So I ask, in the same verbiage as our curious Christian:

To propose a (perhaps ridiculous) situation: If you had to choose between the life of your dog whom you've had for 20 years and love dearly, or a gay man or lesbian, which would you choose and why? (Let's say they're both drowning and you only have time to save one.)
