I was talking with a friend yesterday who is going through a rough time right now- she has recently started attending church, and reading the bible every day before her college classes. She lives with her grandma who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and has 6 mos. to live. My friend's life feels like chaos, except for this 45 minutes she takes to read scripture. She opened her bible one day and read "Be still and know I am God." She said it was a great revelation to her, and it rang so true.
God is not going to materialize before us, popping firecrackers over our heads. The opposite is true- we have to be calm enough to hear to His words, and wise enough to listen.

once you do not face the actuality , you're utilizing a protection mechanism in accordance to psychology. Tiredness is as reliable a recognition for the excuse as the different. human beings do not face info because a million, they could be too drained, 2, they could be too apprehensive, 3, they don't favor to ought to make the differences they might ought to at the same time as they take an problem-free look, 4 they don't imagine that they could do what's needed, 5 they have it particularly reliable with the help of putting up with a messy situation (money, status, holiday, honor etc) 6, they have experienced their recommendations to under no circumstances see a lot of something ugly and it has change right into a habit 7, guilt. desire that's positive.

No, I think that too many people lazily accept all sorts of outrageous and beliefs without even the most cursory scrutiny, whether it's religious dogma, government propeganda, or anything else.
It doesn't take a genius to understand that the stars were created millions of years ago and the earth was not completely flooded wiping out all life in the last 10 mellinia, being repopulated by two individuals of each species but it does take some independent thought. Sadly, this is a quality that too many people lack.

It's ia a differenece in how we were brought up and reason. A person like yourself who has religion sees that everything had to begin and says there is nothing that could have started this great order of things that isn't all powerful. I look at the same situation and think, I don't get it, I don't know the answer and don't see any evidence of an answer so I will look for one but if I can't find an answer then fine, I'm not smart enough or there isn't enough evidence.

Dear Joyfulheart: To look at something very carefully is good. Yes! But to study God's word in sincerity, to seek truth - it is, I think, important to know WHERE you can find it! You cannot find it amongst mankind. You can not find absolute truths in man's written books - even when told they were inspired. For man's human ego-mind enters into the picture and purity is lost.
A good rule of thumb is: If you can see something with your human eyes, it is valid only in terms of your human thinking and human living. But your true Reality is not physical, separated, individual life and no longer knowing your Creator/Father.
Since truth does exist and is an Absolute thing - I would offer the suggestion that you ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit to come into your life as partners in your learning and reading. Choosing any book of your choice - ask Them to answer your questions and instruct you as to what is true and what is not true. Ask Them to explain the things you are curious about. Ask Them to become your best friends. They will guide you. They will instruct you. Then you will have the purity of Truth.
Jesus did not stop teaching when He Ascended. He teaches anyone who asks Him to be their Teacher. He speaks through your Mind and inspires your thoughts. He is very, very alive!
Your Home with God is your Reality. Earth is not your Reality. This means your earthly life is important - for your learning.
But there is much here that is not valid. Learn, and be ready for your Return to the Creator/Father who set up your learning.

Pontius Pilate was looking truth, Jesus Christ, right in the face and couldn't see it. It is easier to believe a lie than the truth. Look at Adam and Eve and see where it got us. God's word, The Holy Bible, is God's absolute truth. There is no other absolute truth available to mankind. Read it and find out for yourself.

I think many feel that they need to find God in their own way when the Bible is clear that God draws them to him. They want a truth that will more allow for the things that they want to do rather than seeking God for who he is and accepting his truths. Making your own truths makes it easy to live in the way which pleases you.
Something is not true if you can just see it. If so there is no such thing as wind.
The truth exists it's just that many want to believe their own truths and others truth instead of what the God who made them said.

I was a practicing Christian for over 30 years and if you read the bible objectively, you would be an atheist.
Obviously, you haven't and aren't.
Atheism, the only logical choice.
And, just as obviously, you can't see the truth that the bible is a book of mythology.

My pastor once said, "I pray to the Lord each time that I preach and I ask Him to give me guidance in my teachings, but even though I feel I'm speaking the direct Word of God, don't accept my words (or anyone else's) as truth. Research them yourself in the Bible, so you will know the truth when you see it."

I agree with you!! Scrutiny is a great thing!! Now if we could ALL just read the bible without preconcieved notions (such as, everything I'm reading is automatically true, and it's my job to interpret it to mean what I need it to mean)....
No wait...that wasn't your point, was it =)
