Religion & Spirituality - 8 August 2006

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Some one recently asked why the religion and spirituality section even exists. This person questioned all the hate, hostility and bashing going on. So who is most responsible for the hate, etc? Christians? Athiests? Muslims? definitly not the Buddhists, so leave them out of it.

Seriously, NOTHING comes out of this section except hatred, insluts, and death threats. Every "question" that is posted here is a rip on someone's beliefs, and the person persucting.... sorry, ASKING the question has absolutely no remorse for how offended he/she's intentionally making everyone feel. Freedom of speech is wonderful and all, but as long we we're going to have Yahoo! moderators in here, why can't they just delete the obviously offensive questions/answers?

I recently asked a VERY serious question about why the muslim community would cause an uproar over the appearance of one Muhammad cartoon, but not another? THAT question was asked for the task of gaining knowledge and understanding. Everything else in here, it seems, exists strictly for the purpose of pissing of anyone who's even REMOTELY religious in anyway.

To conclude, I say this section should either be removed, or the moderators need to change their rules on what gets to stay posted and what shouldn't.

There seem to be a lot of you here, so here's something to ponder, while you're chattering about Pascal's Wager today...

Do you realize that there are millions of people in this world that believe just as strongly, and probably MORE strongly than you do... that YOU are going to hell because you don't believe as they do?

Consider that for a moment. Many of these people, if put to the test, will fight and die for their religion, and will never waver in their conviction. Does that not strike you as odd? Does it not make you wonder HOW they could believe in something so strongly, when you are so convinced that they are wrong?

Just rattling your heads a bit. I hope it makes you think some.

What determines if a person becomes an official saint in the catholic church?

From studying history I read that many saints in the past were part of weathy families of Europe so at one time did how much money you gave the church have anything to do with it. Or is it how much work you have done for the church -like Ms.Teresa( Mother Teresa in your faith)? How about the little old man who never missed mass, lived what he and his priest would say was a good life, and died without doing anything famous - are they not good enough to be a saint?

People say priests are called by God. And there are priests that molest children and altar boys. Why would God want someone to serve his mission that is disgusting and a horrible person

'Do unto others as you would have done to yourself' was preached by Plato hundreds of years before Jesus was even born?
(and to think, we're given the impression everyone was barbaric before the time of Christianity)

Many of the atheist on here talk about how great being an atheist is because they solve there own problems and believe in people using rational thinking to secure happiness and make the world a better place.

Aren't these people not really atheist at all but humanist, people who see god within people and people as the surpreme souce of good and knowledge. I mean anybody can be an atheist right but that doesnt make them all idealistic and wanting to do good. My friend is a proud atheist and all he does is play video games and smoke joints all day and could care less about making the world a better place.

So are most atheists really humanists(belief in humanity as their diety) . In my mind a true atheist would believe that the idea of god is BS and the idea of the supremeness of humanity is BS too.

why is pamela anderson pretty and hillary clinton ugly? shouldnt we all be ugly if we're apes?

Non-believers think its simple minded of one to believe God created everything, but, i seriously think the exact same thing about non-believers. didnt 'luck' take it a little to far when 'luck' created ways for ppl to reproduce? and luck also made us atttracted to people, its not just a means of 'do it, or your breed will die'.

i would like to thank you 'luck' for my best features, my eyes and my face oh, and my body, i got 'lucky' so thank you i also want to thank you for the birthmark on my neck, so considerate of you 'luck' sir Haha. yes i'm crazy, u can say it, i dont Care :)

Christmastime is the celebration of the child Jesus being born.
But in my agenda it gives notification of Christian days, and on the 8th of december it says that was the day Mary got concepted.
So, how is it, was she pregnant for only a few weeks, or for more then a year?

(sorry if my English grammar sucks, I'm not English speaking, but you know what I mean.)
