Seriously, NOTHING comes out of this section except hatred, insluts, and death threats. Every "question" that is posted here is a rip on someone's beliefs, and the person persucting.... sorry, ASKING the question has absolutely no remorse for how offended he/she's intentionally making everyone feel. Freedom of speech is wonderful and all, but as long we we're going to have Yahoo! moderators in here, why can't they just delete the obviously offensive questions/answers?
I recently asked a VERY serious question about why the muslim community would cause an uproar over the appearance of one Muhammad cartoon, but not another? THAT question was asked for the task of gaining knowledge and understanding. Everything else in here, it seems, exists strictly for the purpose of pissing of anyone who's even REMOTELY religious in anyway.
To conclude, I say this section should either be removed, or the moderators need to change their rules on what gets to stay posted and what shouldn't.

I agree with you. We need several moderators for this section...
I've been following this section for a few weeks now and it is clear that MOST of the trouble comes not from Christians nor from atheists, but rather from Christian-haters... Eliminate them and we (both Christians and atheists) may actually have a wonderful place to discuss topics openly.
As to arguments about "freedom of speech," that is a PUBLIC right. Yahoo is a PRIVATE company and if they want to censor speech, they have the privilege to do that if they want.

Oh good, you're still here....I don't think this is always the case. This section exists because clearly people have an interest in the nature of the questions. Youre right some are here only to razz and insult and not to learn anything from it. But others genuinely want to figure things out or accumulate knowledge.
To answer your previous question, not all Islamic traditions ban depictions of Mohamed, however the cartoon in question had a bomb featured in the head and was not intended as anything peaceful. Some in the tradition adhere closely to the Hadith, which is a collection of sayings and actions attributed to Mohamed, this is where the rule against depicting images of god or prophets comes from. islam is not the only faith like this, Judaism also does not permit iconography of god, partly because god has no face, hands, and is basically incorporeal (without body). Also the namge god is an english word and for jews the name of god is ineffable (not to be pronounced).
the questions and answers cannot just be deleted because people still have freedom to express themselves, if they incite hatred they can be reported and then they are reviewed for deletion at a later time, but not an automated deletion system, would you not wonder who was at the controls? I try not to let people's arrogance and ignorance upset me, these people you could speak to until you were blue in the face and they still wouldn't listen. but we can be patient and try and not pay them any mind....most of the time. unless we can find a nice way to set them straight..or attempt to without falling into the patterns of insult.

Kind of arrogant to assume that you're the only one who's ever asked a serious question in here, isn't it? I agree that this section is kind of pointless. It's probably about 95% trolling and 5% legit questions. If this was just a question site, not and question AND answer site, then a religion section would make more sense. What answers are there in religion, really?

Welcome to group process! As time goes by and the novelty wears off, more good questions and answers surface. In the meantime, skip the stuff you don't like if it causes painful swelling of your offensiveness gland. People are people. You could hate people if you really want to, but you can't keep them from being people. Your mentality is what has always led to book-burning in the past. Breathe normally- it's only talk. some of it is valuable, but you'll never get the valuable parts if you ban the whole discussion. There is one solution that will make everyone happy: you can choose to stop looking at this section. It will cease to exist in your world, but the people who find value in it can continue to discuss. Buh-bye!

Because people need a justification to hate each other, apparently. Might as well ban religion from society in general because what you see posted here is a symptom, not a cause.
I for one would like separate sections for things like Eastern Philosophy and such. Not everyone is attracted to "western" religion.

Well, actually, there can be some good discussion that goes on here. I know, I've seen it. But you're right, there's a lot of flaming and insults and stuff. It's childish. I wish people would come here to learn and discuss instead of tearing other people up online. It accomplishes nothing, really. So why use up your points?

Sorry to hear that your experiences are not that good, but I am a Christian and I see what people write and say in this category all the time. I still like to answer questions where I am able to, because you really have genuine persons who need to know information.

Oh I don't know, I find about 1 question in 10 is an actual question of someone seeking an answer.

The moderators do need to get more involved in this section, but because they are afraid of being sued for religious intolerance, they wont.
