Where in the Bible does it say that? The term Christian was just made for Christ's followers. I could be called a Jesus freak and still be Gods follower. When it comes to the Catholic thing, I dont think its bad. I dont agree with their Mary ideas but they still love God. My strong Christian aunt married an athiest because she loved him. After 25 years of marriage and trying to show him God he finally was saved. Now they are the strongest Christian couple I have ever met. What I am saying is that even though there are disagreements, people can change and you can still be in love. Maybe God brought you into his life? Why dont you pray to God about it. He knows best. If God wants it to happen, then I think He will allow it to happen. I hope everything works out. God bless.

There are christian catholics, but not all catholics are christians. A similar argument also applies to protestants.

Christianity supercedes religion. It is a relationship between you and Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You acknowledge that you are a sinner, accept Jesus as God and Lord of your life. You live your life in faith and obedience to Jesus, where obedience is compelled by your profound gratitude of what Christ has done for you. You acknwledge that you cannot earn more favor with God by doing good things or going to church, etc. All the favor you will ever receive has already been earned by Christ through His sacrifice on the cross. Through faith in Christ ONLY are you saved and bring glory to the Father. You are compelled by love to do good things and be obedient to Jesus...not to somehow earn more favor or a special place with God.

To the extent that your catholic friend believes these fundamental tennents, is the extent to which he is a christian.

Personnally, I recommend that you not be unequally yolked with a non-christian. Make sure the above agreement is at least 100%.

Best wishes.

You can be Catholic and Christian just like you can be Methodist and Christian.

Being Christian refers to believing that

a) Christ came
b) He died for our sins
c) He rose again
d) You accept Christ as your saviour

I think that is the basic version. People have different ways of worshipping, but the core beliefs can exist whether even if your religion does not.

Christianity is a relationship. Being a methodist or catholic is a religion.

You need to test if He is a christian. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. There are believers in the Catholic church. Just ask Him about when He made Jesus Christ His Lord? Does He believe the bible to be the Word of God? Does He believe His salvation is by works or by the grace of God. That Jesus shed His blood for the remission of our sins. What does He think about the apochryphal writings in the catholic cannon. What does He think about some catholics who pray to idols of saints or mother marys. Does He believe in the false doctrine that Mary was born of an imaculate birth also. I could go on an on. Yes He could very well be a born again child of God. But also, He might not be. You will never know unless you test Him on it.

I have all respect for Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ & Saints who are in heaven interceding for us. I believe Jesus Christ to be our intermediary to our Heavenly Father, because He is our High Priest. I don't believe God likes idols or other Gods at all before Him.

You might be afraid to test Him, but it is necessary to find out what He truely believes.

Belief in Jesus does NOT make you a Christian. In the book of James it tells us that demons believe in God and tremble. So are demons going to heaven? Are demons saved? Obviously not. Born again saved Christians are not supposed to date those who are not saved. You are right about that. However, just because he is catholic does not mean he is not saved. Ask him. If he can point to a specific time and place that he was lead to the Lord and surrendered his life to Jesus, he is saved. If he cannot than he is not. Denomination is not going to tell you the condition of someone's soul. Since he is raised with a belief in God, if he isn't saved, he may just want to be. Be kind and careful not to insult. You are asking out of love for him and Jesus. Try praying about this. God will guide you.

By "Christian," do you mean a follower of Jesus or someone who goes to a Christian church?

If one truly follows Jesus with all of your heart and mind, that person is a Christian. It doesn't matter what church they attend.

On the other hand, just because someone has Christian parents and attends a Christian church, it doesn't necessarily make them a Christian. Even if they call themselves a Christian.

The key is: does the heart thirst after Christ? If so, then you've got a Christian on your hands! :-)

First of catholics are not christians,They'll even tell you that. Second, IF you do go out with him there will be some doctrinal differences, like worshipping idols (which is something that god is against, 1st commandment). So,its all up to you.

im not methodist but i am christian (baptist). okay, this one is simple, you can date him, sure, but you should try to like convert him and bring him to your church. it sounds like you are younger, so there should be no problem now but if you are like around the age of marriage, maybe you shouldn't because it might make you fall in love with a guy that isn't your religion.

go ahead and date him but if he is set on his religion you don't want to stay with him.
