If I started my own church (and I called it "Witnesses of Jehovah"), used your bible as my text, and taught the exact same principals as the Jehovah's Witnesses teach, would it be just as true as your church? People could be members of either church and have the same ammount of truth, right?

All the natural laws, order and material for the universe were fixed within the first three minutes following the big bang. What was God doing for the next 14 Billion years before mankind developed language skills capable of comprehending His Word?

Seems like a good gig, 3 mintues of work, followed by a 14 Billion year vacation.

Alright, I'm a Christian, and so far, I do believe that hell is very real place. I'm still searching. I don't believe it will be full of lakes of fire and eternal flames, in the literal sense. I think it will/is a place where people are seperated from God and experience grief because of that eternal seperation. Just so you know where I stand. (Note: I'm not condemning you to hell. Who am I to judge?)
So, why do people respond to valid, thought-provoking questions with mention of hell, and how you should be scared of going there?
First, fear of hell should not be a reason to become a Christian. Naturally it will be present, but a desire to be with God because of love and appreciation should be the primary.
Will yelling about hell do anything except make people disenfranchised with Christians?
Here's my dilemma. I don't think it's needed, or even anywhere near constructive. Obviously, others do feel it necessary. What am I missing? Anyone care to share their thoughts on the matter?

For example the JWs did this...

Under the leadership of Nathan H. Knorr (1905-1977) the WT Society put away date setting for a time and switched to a different strategy. Since many of their teachings could be refuted by key verses in the King James Bible, Knorr set out to publish a different Bible for JWs to use. Called the New World Translation (NWT), it blatantly altered many verses to support Watchtower doctrine. The single best example of this is John 1: 1, which in the King James Version clearly declares Jesus' deity-"the Word was God." JWs deny the deity of Christ, so the NWT renders this phrase "the Word was a god." The translation committee responsible for the NWT was kept anonymous, undoubtedly to cover up their complete lack of scholarly qualifications. None of the men who worked on this project had any formal training in the biblical languages, except for Frederick Franz.

Einstein desperately wanted to prove God Created the Universe. He tried for 30 years to prove it, but could not. He tried to see the perfect "fingerprint" of God but what he found was chaos and chance happenstance. Where is God's "Perfect Order"?

Think about fishing. Here the fish (or us, in this fishers of men description) are minding our own business. Not wanting to be caught, just living our lives. Then someone comes long and catches us (the fish). What happens to them then, they either throw them back or eat them. Either way you get screwed in my opinion. Is being caught a good thing? I doubt it!

Almost everyone knows of their aggressive door-to-door proselytizing. The organization they represent, known as the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society (WTB&TS), emphasizes end time prophecy and has falsely predicted the end of the world many times. The WTB&TS exercises rigid control over Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs) and prohibits their participation in such common activities as taking blood transfusions, celebrating birthdays or holidays (including Christmas, Easter, and Mother's Day), voting, flag saluting, and military service. Through these restrictions, the WTB&TS builds a wall of isolation between Jehovah's Witnesses and the rest of society.

Are they right in their beliefs?

Should I chose to believe in your god because although your god is not the god I want, it's not even what I think a god should be, nor do I want a god, but it's the god I've got so I have to worship it?

Is that the long and short of it?

Adoration of Osiris Wen-Nefer, the great god in Abydos,

king of eternity, lord of infinity, passing through millions of years as his lifetime,

first son of the womb of Nut, begotten of Geb,

chief, great lord of the Double Crown of Egypt, exalting the White Crown of the South.

O prince of gods and men, you have received the crook and flail, and the office of the fathers, and your heart is glad in the Mountain [of Amentet].

Your son Horus is established on your throne, and you are crowned in Busiris as ruler in Abydos.

You make the Two Lands to flourish by truth of voice in the presence of Neb-er-djer.

He has drawn forth those who have not come into being in his name of "The Earth Is Drawn to Him;" he tows the Two Lands in truth in his name of "Seker."

He is greatly powerful, great of fear in his name of "Osiris;" his existance is for 120 eternities in his name of "Wen-Nefer."

Homage to you, king of kings, lord of lords, ruler of rulers,

who has taken the Two Lands from the womb of Nut; he rules the lands of Igert.

His limbs are silver; his head is lapis lazuli; the crown of his head is turquoise.

Iwen of millions of years, wide of skin, beautiful of face in the Holy Land,

you give glory in heaven, strength on earth, and truth of voice in the underworld,

and the power to sail north to Busiris as a living soul, to sail south to Abydos as a phoenix, and to enter and exit without opposition at any door of the underworld.

May bread be given to me in the House of Cool Water, and peace in Heliopolis, and an estate established in the the Field of Reeds with barley and wheat on it,

to the ka of the Osiris Ani.

Many Americans give the end of the world "serious consideration". Yet the track record of prophets through the centuries couldn’t be worse.

Leo Harris, founder of Australia’s Christian Revival Crusade argued for 1979 as the possible date for the return of Christ. He claimed Christ had to return within one generation of 1917. Some books of the sect also promote the year 2000 for Jesus’ return. (e.g. Foster 1977)

The Worldwide Church of God (founded in 1934 by Herbert W Armstrong) promoted 1972 for the outbreak of the "Great Tribulation" followed by world rule by Jesus around 1978. In 1955, for example, his magazine The Plain Truth said, "we will be totally consumed and carried away captive to other nations as slaves within 20 years."

The Children of God predicted catastrophe in early 1974 with the approach of the comet Kohoutec.

Does the theocratic war strategy justify lying in court and elsewhere?

While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it. …Jesus on certain occasions refrained from giving full information or direct answers to certain questions when doing so could have brought unnecessary harm (Mt 15:1-6; 21:23-27; Joh 7:3-10). Evidently the course of Abraham, Isaac, Rahab, and Elisha in misdirecting or in withholding full facts from nonworshipers of Jehovah must be viewed in the same light-Ge 12:10-19; chap 20; 26:1-10; Jos 2:16; Jas 2:25; 2Ki 6:11-23 (p. 245).

The Watchtower does not admit to reaching lying, but that lying to "God's enemies" is not really lying but "war strategy"?

Should we look at these people as an example to a new level of humanity. Does this sound promising. To one day instantly manifest our creation with creative intent. Just an idea. Would we have some sort of telepathic connection with each other like the internet cables connected to our computers that we could control the flow of data? Would it take away from our indivuality or would we have newly understood ego?
