Many Americans give the end of the world "serious consideration". Yet the track record of prophets through the centuries couldn’t be worse.

Leo Harris, founder of Australia’s Christian Revival Crusade argued for 1979 as the possible date for the return of Christ. He claimed Christ had to return within one generation of 1917. Some books of the sect also promote the year 2000 for Jesus’ return. (e.g. Foster 1977)

The Worldwide Church of God (founded in 1934 by Herbert W Armstrong) promoted 1972 for the outbreak of the "Great Tribulation" followed by world rule by Jesus around 1978. In 1955, for example, his magazine The Plain Truth said, "we will be totally consumed and carried away captive to other nations as slaves within 20 years."

The Children of God predicted catastrophe in early 1974 with the approach of the comet Kohoutec.

Numerous writers in the 19th and 20th centuries set fairly precise dates. The article Survey of Christian Prophecy (Investigator 20) surveyed a number of their books. These include:
Behold The Bndegroom 1891, W T P Wolston
(Date set = 2000 AD)
The Coming King 1906, James E White
(Date = one generation from the mid 19th century)
When Will Our Lord Return? 1915, Harold Norris
(Date = 1919)

The Approaching End of the Age 1918, E H Horne
(Date = 1919-1998)

n Western lands the main authority for end of-the-world predictions is the Bible—usually a misuse of the Bible. Jehovah's Witnesses with over 25 prophetic attempts are particularly bad. Their Governing Body still sums up their old books with the failed predictio

My prediction is August 24th, 2013. I calculated that date by dividing the weight of Spongebob Squarepants' pet snail Gary by the radius of Saturn's rings. I then added the G-force of a pug being thrown across a freshly waxed floor to the quotient I got. Take the fifth root of the sum and there you have it.

Quite simple, wouldn't you say?

I doubt you will get any reasonable answers. People who believe in such things will only say "It's going to happen!" and when asked when "soon".

Those that give dates will never answer "why were you wrong" afterward. They ignore fact at every given turn and WANT to be right - why? For some it's because they would rather have something else instead of working to make the world better - why work on things when you can go to heaven? For others it's a need to be smarter than everyone else, even when all they can do is repeat the same things and not really answer.

Good luck.
BTW- I am going to watch this one and in 31 months ask the person who made that prediction if they will print a retraction. This is something I've done with people who give dates starting in 1985 and so far have NEVER gotten a retraction - only rude attacks rather than answers.

Despite the lying slander of anti-Witness agitators, Jehovah's Witnesses have humbly taught that they are *NOT* infallible and *NOT* inspired by God; that's more than 125 years of such clear denials.

Jehovah's Witnesses apply the term "prophet" only in a very limited sense to themselves as a religion, not to individuals. The Scriptures indicate that whenever Jehovah purposes to execute judgment upon a people, he always makes arrangment for a 'prophet's work' as a warning. Their self-description as a "prophet" (in this limited sense) does not indicate special inspired knowledge or foreknowledge, but their willingness to perform Christ's assigned warning work.

What group is working harder than Jehovah's Witnesses to preach God's message globally?

(Amos 3:7) For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.

(2 Peter 2:5) Noah, a preacher of righteousness...

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

PER MY SPIRITUAL GUIDES:

"When will the Black Rain occur?"

Black Rain will begin on April fifth in the year two-thousand and sixty-three.

“How long will the Black Rain last, and who will survive?”

Black Rain will last six years. The best will live.

“What else will you tell me about this event? What do I need to know?”

The Black Rain is the establishment of good awesome power versus the blackness that Yahweh dusted the earth with in the beginning. At the top of the worst wind, when (the) sun is under the sign older than others, they will have to annihilate it prior to the day we are awakened, yet we will have its power if we are able to annihilate the source that waits in the death of the blackness.

“How high is the worst wind, and what sign is older than others?”

The highest wind is three hundred and fifty two miles an hour. The sign is Taurus.

“What else will you tell me truthfully about this?”

The black rain is now beginning. Carry the Sword of Babylon to the worlds under the world and erase the writing on the wall. Each day will mark a new trial. Help the winged serpent to initiate the war. Listen to the world dragon draw sword and you will wash the blood from the sword and wash red blood from the angel’s wing.

“Who is to carry the Sword of Babylon to the Wall?”

Time will tell.

“Just human curiosity. Can you tell me what the physical earth plane will experience during these years of the Rain?”

Earth edges toward destruction. As the black rain gets closer, the earth will experience world destruction and death. The world will heal itself. Cut the door soon. Knock on the door to open it to other words. To physically pierce the veil would be to physically walk down the world beloved by men. To pierce the veil, you have to wade through water higher than one day’s stone.

“Can you give me a more specific description of what the earth and people will see happening when the Rain begins?”

Earth will have to start over. The air will heat to three hundred degrees. The sun will pulse at ten times the norm. Death will be instant. Welcome it. Go. Each road will lead you to it. The bona fide Golden Gate will open, for you will not want to keep trying but you will be seen to love Daniel in the afterlife. Call him and he will hear you weeping. He will come to you when you call. Love will live forever.

Five Pillars of Islam, called arkan in Arabic, five ritual duties that mainstream Muslims view as central to their faith. These are :(1) pronouncing the confession of faith (shahada or kalima); (2) performing the five daily prayers (salat); (3) fasting during the month of Ramadan (saum); (4) paying the alms tax (zakat); (5) and performing, at least once in life, the major pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj). In most places where Islam is the official religion, Muslims are not punished for failing to perform these duties. In some Islamic states, however, public denial by a Muslim of the validity, importance, or centrality of the five pillars is generally considered an act of heresy and is punishable by death.

The shahada is the Arabic statement “La ilah illa Allah wa Muhammad rasul Allah,” meaning “There is no God but the one God and Muhammad is His prophet.” In the Shia Islam, believers generally add to this the Arabic phrase “wa Ali Wali Allah,” meaning “and Ali ibn Abi Talib is the friend of God.” In addition to this confession of faith, Muslims must also express their belief in the Qur'an (Koran), angels, and the Last Day. The shahada also is uttered as part of the Muslim call to prayer (adhan).

The salat—the five obligatory daily prayers—is also known as the namaz in Iran, India, and Turkey. These prayers are only performed after ritual bathing and take place before sunrise, at noon, in the mid-afternoon, immediately after sunset, and before midnight. Mainstream Shia Muslims combine the noon and afternoon prayers and also the sunset and midnight prayers so that they need only pray three times a day. Praying in Islam is also associated with a specified set of postures, such as standing, bowing, and prostrating.

The saum is a fast prescribed only for healthy, adult Muslims during the 30 days of Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. From dawn until dusk, no food, drink, or sexual relations are permitted. Ill individuals and nursing women are excused, but they are expected to make up for missing the fast at other times in the year when they are healthy again or no longer nursing.

The zakat or alms tax is levied annually on the crops, livestock, precious metals, and cash of all those living above subsistence and whose debts do not exceed their assets. In theory it is to be collected on behalf of, and then distributed to, the poor. However, some Islamic leaders have collected the zakat to add to their royal treasuries. For this reason, the identity of the zakat collector and distributor has often been a mystery. Since the late Middle Ages (ad 476-1453), mainstream Shia Muslims have had the tax collected by their jurists, legal scholars of Islamic law, who act according to their self-styled role as governors of the imam.

The hajj is the “greater” of the two pilgrimages to Mecca required of all Muslims. All healthy adult Muslim men and women should perform it at least once in their lifetime if they have sufficient means and safe transport. Unlike the lesser pilgrimage, called umra, Muslims must perform the hajj during the first half of the month of Dhu al-Hijja, the last month of the lunar year. Those who perform the hajj can use the honorific title Hajji if male and Hajja if female.

there's no need to pack your bags... when you believe in the coming of doom's day all you have to do is to strengthen your faith, whatever you believe in.... do not do unto others what you don't want be done unto you... love your parents as they have loved you, share your blessings to poor and the needy without counting the cents in other words be good to your fellowmen even if they aren't good to you... persevere and God will reward you for being so, repent and don't hold grudges against anyone... lastly, pray for your soul... when you have done all those things heartily you are all up and about for doom's day
