I've wondered about that myself. It seems to be mostly an American thing. I only knew it from the Blondie song way back in the day...

First of all, the ppl who do not believe in the rapture should read revalation. it says that all of the christians will be taken to have, the ones who have commited their life to Jesus Christ and believe he is the one and only savior. And nobody knows when God will for the second coming, "he will come like a thief" ( dont take it the wrong way!!). The quote just shows that it will be a surpise when he comes, and no one will be able to predict the exact day and time.
And from what i can tell all of you, is that the end times are soon, look at the news, and according to the prophecies in the bible, many of them are being fulfilled, such as the war in the middleeast and the whole Israel thing because, as you can see many arab countries will soon gang up on Israel, and the whole world eventually. Read revaltion and so forth.

It is only the fundamentalist & Evangelical Protestants who believe in the Rapture.

The Rapture is not a Christian Doctrine, because Christ Said that Only the Father Knows when the end will be. The rest of us know neither the day nor the hour.

The Rapture is also known as Millenialism and as The End Times. Just as some sects of Christianity focus on, say, adult baptism vs. infant baptism, or some sects focus on speaking in tongues, some focus on the End Times.

Christians generally believe in the Rapture, how could they not, as it is mentioned several times in the Bible. It is just a question of emphasis, of focus.

The Holy Bible describes the great Day with much detail. Examples:

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are [dead], that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet The Lord in the air" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 KJV)

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in The Clouds of Heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:29-31 KJV)

"And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south." (Matthew 14:4 KJV)

"This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:5-6 (KJV)
