Russell isn't the best.

I stopped believing when I took a good, long look at religion from the point of view of someone not accepting it beforehand, and I saw from that vantage point that it's silly. Part of that was because I had seen most religious arguments shredded by logic and reason, and part of that was because it's pretty tough to tell religion apart from a fairy tale if you haven't already convinced yourself that religion is true.

I could probably write a whole book on my journey away from theism.

Kudos to looney dude for mentioning Russell. He's fun to read, but certainly not overwhelming. Marx and Nietzsche are fun, too. Freud, however, is a drag.

The fact is, there are no overwhelming arguments on either side; it comes down to a decision which must be made, heart and mind, by the whole person. For me, it is a matter of asking holistically, what world-view is more satisfying in terms of offering an account of *all* the data of human experience? And it's theism, my friend.

More from all the holes in Christian belief that bring out questions that simply have no answers. When the only thing you can use to justify you belief is faith, even in the face of evidence to the contrary... then all you have is blind faith. Blind faith makes you a slave to anyone with an idea (to quote Terry Goodkind).

I didn't stop believing, because such arguments (specifically "overwhelming") don't exist...

Not even after reading Russell.

But nice try. Keep searching for that one magic bullet that will quiet the nagging doubt within...

...no, I've always done my own thinking.. and look into and study the scientific theories for myself.. (and am consequently quite shocked! as to the facts! and find that so many rely upon what others tell them is fact.)
...One of the greatly touted 'missing links' was formulated from a tooth found in a pharmacy.. and the 'scientist' recieved $8O,OOO for subsequent research..

Not really. Those just confirmed that I was right not to believe.

I don't think I ever believed in God and I'm not really sure why.
