What do you call the one that you pray to? Do you believe he/she is the same being that everyone else prays to, just with different names? or do you believe that your "God" is different from the "God" of other faiths? If so, do you believe that the other ones exist or that people of those other faiths are praying to imaginary beings?

I am just a curious Christian. I believe that there is only one God (no matter what you call him) and he hears all our prayers. I'm just curious what other people believe, Chrisians or not. I'm not here to be judgemental, I just think it is interesting to hear other people's points of view.

You don't have to agree with me to get best answer, I'll consider all answers for how well written and diplomatic they are.

I believe outside the mainstream, but I'm open minded. I look to share experience with people with interesting beliefs - or even conventional ones if you're open minded and mature.

Can you tell me what you believe in (or hold sacred in life) without slogans and quotes from the Bible? If you MUST quote someone else, please at least put it in your own words and tell us WHAT THE WORDS MEAN TO YOU.

I'm speaking about largely the OT here, the God Dagon is mentioned and there are numerous other references to a multiplicity of God's. Even the commandment "serve no other God but me" seems to imply the existance of other Gods. So then why are we lead to believe that "God" is the only God? Even to say "the One True God" is implying that there are other Gods, just not the correct one. Which brings up another question, How do we know that the God Christians are worshipping is the right God? Maybe he was just Greedy God and wanted all the glory for himself (maybe he's Satan...) and he convinced a bunch of desert wandering sandal wearer's to come up with a bunch of ambiguously worded texts proclaiming his authority after bribing them with concepts of paradise after death. I'm not trying to be a troll or anything here, I just want some reflection on this.

I wonder, what will death be like? if Skeptism of the soul have anything it will be like before you were born, just you wont remember, in this i see no reason to advance in anything really, why cure something? it could not possibly matter. A life is a life and why would it matter if it was saved?

theism has its hell, ill start with heaven, eternal bliss? would it not get boring after the first like 100 years? i mean god damn, it seems like a terrible existence.

Buddhism seems to make the most sense, you die but your mind jumps from one body into a baby's but then you lose all concept of your past life.... kinda ******* weird.

From the founding of Christianity, it has waged war against all the pagan religions believers, against all the Muslim religions believers, against all the natural earth religions believers and against the Jewish religion believers. The history of Christianity has been one of bloodshed and forced conversion by the sword. In this it is nearly paralled by Islam, though one might perhaps considere Communism a State religion with millions of murders to its infamy as well as any other religion....SO,,,it would appear that murder is really the primary religion of the world...Maybe the Christians dont have to apologize after all, eh? Any opinions?

tell me if I have got this correct Christians are supposed to support the Jews and the state of Israel because they are the chosen people.

yet many Christians also believe that if you do not accept Jesus as your savior you will burn in hell for all eternity.

Even further to prevent the Jews from burning in hell Christians are encouraged to convert them to Christianity. This though will cause the Jews to be assimilated among the rest of the world and within a few generations their will be no more Jews aka chosen people.

To me this seems a little contradictory and strange. If I am wrong in my thinking please someone correct.

Why can't all believers and non believers discuss without predudice to the views of the other person?
I'm an atheist. If I want to learn about the evolution of the Platypus ( something I know nothing about ) I check what those who study that subject have to say, and tentatively accept it as true without demanding any other proof.

Religious people do the same. They consult books on the subject of God, or ask priests. We are no different in HOW we came to believe as we do , just in WHAT we believe.

We cannot morally force others to our viewpoint. I'll come in here and ask questions about things I want to more about from those who have studied. Let's stop using Yahoo as a soapbox to undermine one another.

I know Voltaire said: "God made man in His own image and man promptly returned the compliment". Seriously though.

The God of the O/T had human qualities, He said he felt jealousy , anger, bitterness at the ungratefulness of the Israelis : " How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of the signs I have wrought among them?

Many people, even now, see every calamity from the Holocaust to AIDS to the loss of a football game, as the expression of God's anger and disappointment.

Some say he is non physical and formless but they also admit to seeing him in more concrete forms, even, some, see him as an old man in the sky.

What is your image?

If I ask a serious question about the workings of their religion they don't respond.
Except for a couple of those that just hit the copy and paste on a bible tract.
But if I diss them just a little bit they answer.
They call me names and stuff but at least they answer.
Why is that?

I thought long and hard for years on this and I came up with my own definition for evil. I think it's accurate and want to know if anyone disagrees or has a better blanket definition.

I believe true evil is the choice of one's own WANTS at the expense of the NEEDS of others.

Anyone?
