How can we? We don't believe in ANY gods. However, we can be just as moral and altruistic as those who believe. Just as some who believe can behave immorally and selfishly.
What most of us believe is that we all have a right to believe what we feel is right and not try to force our beliefs on others.

Nope, sure don't.
Atheists don't believe in any gods. There are some New Age types of religion that claim that we are all gods, but atheists don't believe that.
Nor does being an atheist believe that there is nothing "greater" than we are. Just that there are not gods of any sort. So the universe as a whole might be greater than humans, or a star or love or whatever. But atheists simply don't believe in gods.
Nor is it true that atheists are afraid to believe in gods or want to avoid responsibility so they claim not to believe in gods. Since atheists don't believe in gods, they don't fear them. Any more than someone who doesn't believe in the Easter Bunny fears angering the Easter Bunny. Since there are no gods for an atheist, atheists must take responsibility for their own actions. Things can't be blamed on demons, nor can wrongful acts be pardoned by God. Atheists are responsible for themselves, they aren't avoiding responsibility.
It is confusing to some how anyone could not believe in gods. But it's really quite a simple thing. It's just the lack of one particular belief. Nothing more, nothing less.

Atheists believe that man created God (or better, the idea of God) in his own image. This is proven by the fact that every culture has its own ideas about God, and even among the adherents of any particular religion, everyone's ideas of what God is like are a little different.

It depends, all that atheism is is the belief that no god (in the sense of a supernatural deity) exists. I personally do not believe I am a god, but some atheists do.

I do not believe I am a deity or divine. I don't believe in deities or the divinity of human beings. I am a human being with all the good and bad, the promise of better and the imperfections which make me unique.

A three letter word meaning?
God? He or She?
Church? Christianity? Jesus? Dying?
What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?
(NOT A VIRGIN BIRTH! - Google Imacculate Conception. What else do you falsely believe? )
Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .
If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.
Gods do not die? Do they?
If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?
Did Jesus give up Saturday for us? Big deal!
If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.
If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!
Life after death is like virginity after childbirth.
If the flesh of Jesus died, what was seen walking and talking on Sunday?
If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.
Christians want everyone to convert to their non-thinking in order to be 'saved'.
Believing and not thinking is like choosing a mental illness and becoming truly lost.

Well, if you mean that we think we are your God, then no, because we do not believe in Gods.
However, we beleive ourselves to be God-like using your definition, as we control our own destiny, think for ourselves rather than swallowing rhetoric/dogma, and live life how we best see it.
