God is love, love is not God.

That is; it doesn't encompass all of what God is.

It is necessary to understand the Hebrew verb; to hate.

In English, context and emotive emphasis is all important to the degree of hate one is expressing.

In Hebrew ( as I understand it), 'to hate' is also very broad in it's ability to express different forms of meaning.

Literally the verb in Hebrew means 'to set against.' This can mean a lot of things. Set against Coca Cola in favor of Pepsi for instance.

Or set against your young son going to a concert.

Or set against the person who drives while being drunk.

Or set against your enemy who is trying to shoot you.

The Bible says that God hates. When God says He hates something, the relativity of emphasis is always considered to be the worst possible reaction. I think that is a smart way to be. Because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

What I am saying is that God is not just love. He's wisdom, giving, caring, trustworthy, honest, farreaching and farseeing. Yet He also has wrath, causes death, allows others to fall away, given to curse at times, causer of calamities.

Sodom and Gomorrah did not go down out of love. God's wrath is terrible. I figure He did that out of anger. I believe that He was saving man a whole lot of harm that would be produced from those places. But that is a theory.

So I am one of those that says God hates, but also loves.

Jesus faced God's wrath. He did that on the cross. He did that so that anyone else could escape God's wrath. I think that is an expression of love.

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." Proverbs 6:16-19
The operative word is "things". God does not hate individuals; He hates the evil that they do. To paraphrase, God hates arrogance, lying, innocent people being hurt, harmful schemes, evil practices, telling lies about others, and things that stir up dissension among people.
What we hate says a lot about who we are. One of my favorite authors says that our character is formed in part by what we hate because we move to be different from whatever that is. God takes a stance against things that destroy life and so should we.

Stupid people who hold up signs that say: "God hates gays," or God hates any other kind of people don't know the God of the Bible. And there should probably be someone across the street holding up a sign that says: "God hates people who hold up signs that say God hates _____."
Please pass this on to the next imposter who says God hates ______?

WHO says God hates? My God hates no man. I don't know where you came up with this idea. I think that is maybe what is wrong with the world today, people like you putting your own words in other people's mouths. I don't hate you, God doesn't hate you. Did you ever ponder where does all this hate come from. Man himself.

God disagrees with how mankind treats each other hence rape, torture, murder, lying, cheating, gossiping, slandering, abuse and much more that we as humans do. That is sin in His eyes because it violates the law of love, if love was the motivation of a person, then he wouldn't do anything to hurt anyone.

They are confused. God is love.

Evil, sin, hatred, all of these are words to describe the absence of God.

God bless you.

Because the Bible says he hates.
Hos 9:15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
Mal 1:3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
