This is a toughie for Christians (or any faith, for that matter).

Let's consider the alternatives.

1. The baby goes to heaven.

This seems very unfair. Otherwise, it would have been better for me (an atheist) to have been aborted. Mothers that kill their children are actually doing them a fantastic service. But it is really unfair because that child gets an eternity in heaven, a "get-out-of-jail" card without ever being tested by life. If god is perfect, this can't be true.

2. The baby goes to hell

Same idea as above, except even worse. If God is truly good, this cannot be true.

3. God simply judges the "heart of the baby" and decides from there.

#1, this argument drops the free will idea on its a$$. Secondly, if God can always simply judge the heart of a person, then our faith or our deeds are worthless. At the least, it is unfair to have two tests for heaven (saved by faith for the old, judge the heart for the young).

Lastly, the issue of when a baby become "accountable" is a mess. Two twins dies one day apart from each other at various times. At what exact age would it be possible for one to go to hell and one to go to heaven. Under the accountablitity theory, there must be a time where this can concievably occur. Can that possibly be fair???

The short answer is, there is no rational way to combine a perfect god, heaven and hell with this scenario. God must either be imperfect, or not exist at all. Every other explanation is illogical and irrational and unfair.

This is another example of changing the faith to adapt to the times.

Originally, if the baby wasn't baptized it would go to hell. You can't go to heaven without being baptized.

When humanities sensibilities evolved (YIKES...THE E WORD), the church came up with a place called limbo. The unbaptized children, not old enough to make the choice to be baptized would be sent here. It's kind of like a soul recycling yard.

With the further evolution of human sensibility, most churches will say that if an infant dies, the soul automatically goes to heaven.

Now that that's been said, nothing. Humans don't have souls...its a story told to attempt to give order to a random universe, and hope for something better...even if it doesn't exist.

it goes to Heaven , because it is an innocent baby, it knows no sin, and if it is a baby , it hasn't committed any sin.,

No one knows the age of accountablility. It is deifferent for every one. I accepted Jesus in my heart when I was 5, but many, couldn't understand it, much less the alphabet at that age , It all depens on the individual person. You may be 36 , and not at the age of accountability. You may hvae a mental problem or something.

.
The Bible tells us it is appointed to mankind once to die, and then the Judgement.
Our Perfect Judge, Jesus will be the one judging us. Jesus is Perfect and HIS
Judgement will be perfect. It is enough to know HE decides.
On the human level, it seems one cannot judge sin if there is no capacity for understanding
.Instead of agonizing about it, I choose to leave it to the Lord..We can trust HIM absolutely
to be Perfect in this task.
I arrive at a conclusion that We will be judged according to the amount of light we have received.
A newborn cannot receive the knowledge of sin, though they are tainted with original sin.
There's the dilemma. I've heard some say, the parents salvation plays a part. & will determine
the babies fate. That seems contradictory to me, because the baby is a separate soul.

received and our response to it.

The bible says that if a child dies before he reaches the age of awareness (it isn't specific to a particular age, it is different for every child) he goes directly to heaven to be with God.

Another good question!
Anyone who dies before the age of accountability (about 12-14) enters heaven because they are not accountable for their sins. Often it is an individual that God wants before him, because he loves them that much.

The age of accountability is 8, babies and small children are innocent, so they go back to heaven.

It's resting. But the soul is innocent because. It's not old enough to understand wrong and right. It's not old enough to say yes or no to life decisions.

“WHY did my baby die?” the young mother sobbed, grief-stricken at the death of her only child. “He had so many years ahead—so much to live for.”Such parents are not alone in their sorrow. Their pain has been felt by many others. Usually it is a grief known only to a few close friends. At other times the world becomes aware of the loss.
The only book that truly explains this situation is the oldest book in existence, the Holy Bible. Its writers were inspired by God, and so what they wrote merits our interest. One of those inspired penmen wrote almost three thousand years ago: “The living are conscious that they will die.”—Eccl. 9:5.This same Bible writer who wrote, “For the living are conscious that they will die,” continued that very sentence with a statement that surprises many persons. He said: “But as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”—Eccl. 9:5, 10.
This idea surprises persons who have been taught in their churches that the dead not only are conscious, but are consciously suffering punishments or enjoying rewards. Who has not heard the idea that the dead are suffering in a hellfire or purgatory or are enjoying the blessings of heaven? Yet God’s Word, the Bible, says the dead “are conscious of nothing at all.”
Verify this for yourself. Get your own copy of the Bible, and read these words in the book of Ecclesiastes, chapter nine, verses five and ten.
The Bible teaches that Jesus’ ransom sacrifice opened the way for a magnificent hope for mankind. By laying down his human life, Jesus was offering as a sacrifice the exact equivalent of what Adam had lost—perfect human life on earth. He paid a “ransom” for dying mankind. Now the prospect of eternal life was again open. Thus it was proper for the apostle Peter to call Jesus God’s “Chief Agent of life.” (Acts 3:15) It is by means of this One that God will raise the dead to life in a thrilling resurrection. Concerning this, the Christian apostle Paul said: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.”—Acts 24:15.
Even now there are persons who are exercising faith in God’s Son, and they have a wonderful hope ahead of them, even as Jesus said: “God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.”—John 3:16.
Many persons can quote that Bible passage, but few have thought about what it actually says. It does not say that Jesus gave his life that people might “become angels” or so that “all good people might go to heaven.” It says he did so that they might have “everlasting life.”
You may have prayed: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”—Matt. 6:10, Douay translation.Few persons have realized what a change it will make for that prayer to be answered—for God’s will to be done throughout the earth the way it is done in heaven. In fact, it will require that God replace this present system of things, with its wars, corruption and greed. In its place will be a new system that will assure the conditions of peace and life that God originally created in Eden.
Psalms 37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.It is possible to benefit from Christ’s ransom, and to conform to God’s instructions. We can take a course of obedience that will permit us either to survive through the coming “great tribulation” or to be resurrected afterward, into a righteous and cleansed earth, now near at hand. What a blessing to be on hand when dead loved ones, perhaps your children, return from the dead! NO BABIES DO NOT GO TO "hell, or purgatory" THEY ARE ASLEEP WAITING FOR THE RESURRECTION .

A baby is not capable of deciding to follow God or not, so they go to Heaven.
