I have been wondering what the words behind names mean.
I mean, for example, somebody's name is Hideki.
There is Hideki-san, Hideki-kun, Hideki-bocchama, Hideki-senpai, Hideki-chan, Hideki-sama and so on and so forth.
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between these?? And if there are anymore denotions behind names????

Arigatou! ^^

I am American but have a knack for languages (at least the Romance languages) and have become very proficient (although not native) in Spanish. I have also taken courses in Italian and find this easy to learn as well but do not get the reinforcement. Aside from teaching and being a call-center interpreter, what can I do?

I took French for four years in high school, but that makes two years since I've had a class. I'd like to be able to read literature in French and I'm thinking of starting small.

What are some low-level (possibly children's books) in French that would help me refresh my French skills. I'm referring to stuff like *Le Bon Lion* and *Le Bonhomme* (both spectacular works ;p).

Why is the US so unsuccessful at teaching students a second language? I've been a dedicated high school Spanish teacher for over 10 years and I've had few students that ever really assimilate enough understanding of the language to carry on even a basic conversation. I generally teach Spanish I & II. Most people can read a few words or maybe write something in the language but when it comes down to brass tax, they can't actually SPEAK the language. When I've taught the advanced classes, they too are hesitant to speak the language. I generally don't punish them for not being 100% in Spanish but I do have expectations of them using the language in the classroom, and I only speak to the advanced students in Spanish (unless explaining grammar.) I use a lot of gesturing and pointing to get my ideas accross to them.
