I taught English to foreigners for 10 great years during which time the internet has become a fantastic source for materials.(spot the error) The biggest problem is boredom - it is incredibly difficult to be motivated to learn "stuff" that may or may not be of use. I had to learn the grammar to teach it, so I was motivated by students saying things like: When do I say "I live in Rome" and when "I am living in Rome". Pretty basic stuff but I'm sure that not many have thought of the rules that a foreigner needs. So search the net as if you are a foreigner learning English or an English teacher in Outer Mongolia who has to teach something to a class and doesn't know the rules. Try to identify, and write down, where you make your mistakes; you can then concentrate on the answers. Do you read much? I don't mean tabloids but where there is good English. And/or do a writing course - in college or by mail.

You have few good answers.

The best way to improve is to start at the beginning and advance from there, buy the series of books that are written for learning English, and start with most basic book and when you master what is there in that book pick up the next one Westminster's series come to mind but there are Indian series for Indian school children that may be more suitable.

Contact your English high school teacher and see if he/she gives you a name or two of English grammar book.

Keep all these books as future reference.
