Hello. I am in the process of learning Portuguese, but I am learning the Brazilian accent, pronunciation, etc...So, I just wanted to know what are MAIN differences between European Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese, in terms of accent, and just the over all "sound" when a person speaks it. I know in Brazil the d is like j, te is pronounced like chi, and Brazilians speak with a clearer S sound, and what I mean by that is, Brazilians would pronounce ESTA like the normal S sound in english, but in Portugal it's more like ESHTA. Does that apply to every word with an S in the middle/around the middle? All in all, what are some main differences between EP and BP? Thanks!

I am trying to find an excellent and efficient text book/work book for learning Japanese that doesn't cost 50+ dollars. Right now I have been using Japanese for Young People but there's no English translation except for the vague dictionary in the back and I don't have the tapes nor know where to obtain them. I'm also using a couple of books for memorizing Kanji.

Whatever it may be we must respect our national language irrespective of our mother tongue. Then as a secondary our mother tongue comes into action and if necessary we may use foreign languages.

We can't allow an alien language to domiante our country in all aspects.Nowadays people deliver their speech only in english and not in any other language irrespective of the state they survive.

Western culture has dominated us in all aspects, whatever the work and where ever the work may be, the person who looks for a job or a graduation must have learnt English and must know to speak english well.

If a student doesn't know to do a conversation in English he would be rejected from the selection process of companies irrespective of his working talents and his ideas.
Is this attitude right?

Hey everybody, I'm a 18-year-old Italian girl, and in exactly two days I'm going to take the FCE, First Certificate of English exam.
I'm not really worried for the exam itsself, I'm usually rather good at English so that's not what I'm mainly preoccupied for BUT it's my first real exam in front of total strangers (the examiners).
I wasn't scared until today but now I have this sense of anxiety and panic, basically for the spoken part of the exam, and it just won't go away... I know it's normal to get frightened like this, but it's really annoying since basically I have nothing to fear, and I don't want to screw up my exam just because I'll be in blind panic. Do you have any suggestions? any tricks to feel more relaxed or self confident? I thought about drinking a beer before the exam but I might be a little too laid back if I do that...whatever...
Thanks so much in advance, Sylvia
